Preliminary research from the work of Dr. Rebecca Powell shows there is a strong antibody immune response to COVID-19 in the breastmilk.

Their lab studied the breastmilk of 15 mothers who had COVID-19 compared to the breastmilk of 10 mothers who had not had the illness. They found 80% of the breastmilk samples had a signficantly higher IgA antibody response to COVID-19.

The antibody secretory IgA is the main maternal antibody in breast milk that helps protect babies from infection by blocking bacteria and virus from getting into your baby's body.

Their paper "Evidence of a significant secretory-IgA-dominant SARS-CoV-2 immune response in human milk following recovery from COVID-19" is preliminary and still needs to undergo peer review.
