Youth Empowerment Service YES, is a comprehensive English speaking community-based transition program YES focuses on individual needs for growth.

Youth Empowerment Service (YES) is a community-based transition programme launched by the Methodist Study Trust (MST) in April 2014 to provide comprehensive life skills training for English-speaking adults with special needs. Involvement of the young adult, the guardians and YES staff team is YES’s key of success. As a community-based transition programme, our trainees will learn skills they need to enter their adulthood and the community such as social and communications skills, independent living skills, functional skills and understanding of relationships with others, through various activities and community and vocational experiences. Equals ‘Moving On’ Literacy and Numeracy, Functional Skills and Sex and Relationships Education, as well as resources from latest research are adopted on a daily basis.

[ Bringing Lessons to Life: From DIY Crafts to Massive Museum Models! 🦖]

Our theme learning sessions got a major creative upgrade! Alongside learning about biodiversity, we started building our own animal🐊🐸🦁 and plant models🌴🌾🌱 using recycled tissue rolls🧻 and cardboard📦. We loved choosing our favourite creatures to design, and after weeks of crafting, we’ve created an entire mini-forest🌳 that we’re proudly displaying here at the centre! 🏢✨

The excitement went even further during our recent museum outing. We got to see jaw-dropping, life-sized models of dinosaurs🦖, zebras🦓 and giraffes🦒! Seeing these animals on such a massive scale brought our classroom lessons — and even our tissue roll models — to life in the coolest way possible. 🦓🦒

It’s amazing how a simple craft project can connect us to the giant wonders of the natural world! 🌍💚

[Leveling Up Our Summer Adventure]

Getting ingredients at the local supermarket is usually part of our cooking sessions🍎🍆🥕🍖🥩, but this summer, we decided to step out of our usual routine and explore the vibrant wet markets of Wan Chai and Wong Tai Sin💪🏻🤓.

The bustling stalls had so much to discover — things we would rarely find in a supermarket aisle, from fresh seafood, live fish and crabs moving around in the water to authentic butcher cuts! 🦐🐟🦀

We enjoyed looking around, spotting the differences and
experiencing a different side of everyday life in Hong Kong. Sometimes, the best adventures begin by going somewhere new and simply being curious about what we might find! 🤔🤩🤓

[Small Group, Focused Training!]

With a smaller training group🏋🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️, everyone had more opportunities to focus on their skills💪🏻, practise at their own pace, and receive individual guidance from Coach Zaki😉.

We took things step by step👣, starting with the basics and focusing on building the correct movements and body posture💪🏻. After a full head-to-toe stretching routine💆🏻‍♀️🦵🏻 and warm-up🏋🏻‍♀️, we challenged ourselves with an obstacle course🏁, moving through the cones🔺🔺 while practising our speed🏁, coordination💪🏻, and control.

With more space to practise and more focused support, everyone enjoyed the training experience and encouraged each other throughout the session.😉🤩🫱🏻‍🫲🏼👏🏻

[Independent Living: Exploring New Ingredients in the Kitchen 🍳🦑🍆]

In our cooking lessons👨🏼‍🍳👩🏼‍🍳, we take turns handling different ingredients🥒🥕, giving everyone the opportunity to practise new skills and build confidence💪🏻 in the kitchen.

Recently, we’ve been exploring healthier and less familiar foods, such as eggplants🍆 and squid🦑. We learned how to wash, prepare and cook them safely while discussing their texture🖐🏻, taste😋 and nutritional benefits💪🏻.

Some of us felt unsure🤔 about trying these ingredients at first, but after tasting the finished dishes, we discovered new foods we enjoyed😋😻. It was a great reminder that being open to new foods is an important part of healthy eating💪🏻.

Step by step, we are building cooking skills, confidence, independence and healthy habits for everyday life🙌🏻🤩.

[Mental Health Matters]

Mental Health Awareness Month🧠🤓 reminds us that well-being is closely connected to our relationships🫱🏻‍🫲🏼, daily experiences💪🏻, and how we understand one another🥰🫶🏻.

Through our activities and community outings, we experience many moments of connection🫱🏻‍🫲🏼 — such as spending time with elderly friends⏰👵🏼👴🏼, sharing smiles🤩, having heartfelt conversations💬, and simply being present together. These small human connections help us feel part of a community where we are supported and not alone🫶🏻👩🏻‍❤️‍👨🏼.

As we build these connections, we also learn that everyone experiences emotions differently. Sometimes, the most supportive thing we can do is to understand one another🫱🏻‍🫲🏼, respect how we feel🙇🏼‍♀️🙇🏻‍♂️, and give space when needed. Allowing time to process emotions is also a form of care🫶🏻👩🏻‍❤️‍👨🏼.

[Discover Your Healthy Habits! 🏃‍♂️⚽]

We believe that everyone can find their own way to stay active and healthy💪🏻🏋🏻🏋🏻‍♀️—and it all starts with trying something new!😉

Every two months, we look forward to our exciting sports sessions with Coach Zaki🤾🏻‍♂️, where we explore a range of activities such as rugby🏉, football⚽ and light cardio games🏃🏻🏃🏼‍♀️. Each activity is adapted to suit different abilities🫱🏻‍🫲🏼, so everyone feels confident💪🏻 to take part.

Through fun😊 and supportive experiences🤩, we practise skills such as passing🤾🏻‍♀️, dribbling⛹🏻, kicking, running🏃🏼‍♂️🏃🏼‍♀️ and teamwork👯🏻🫱🏻‍🫲🏼, while building confidence💪🏻 and enjoying movement together🤩🥰.

To show our appreciation, love, and care for our moms, we put our hearts into crafting handmade bouquets💐 filled with personal and heartfelt messages💬. Through every word and little detail, we hope they truly feel how lucky we are to have them, and know that they are cherished, valued, and deeply loved😘—not just on this special day, but every single day🗓️.

We also prepared and dedicated Mother’s Day songs🎶 during our music session and shared about our appreciation🙇🏼‍♀️, love🥰, and care🤗 for our moms👩🏼.
