Boarding school isn't "sending your child away" - and it isn't a one-size-fits-all solution either. Here is the honest reality behind one of the biggest decisions a family can make.

What the choice actually comes down to:

* The opportunity
* The potential risk
* The true deciding factor

I have seen both paths go brilliantly right and disastrously wrong for the exact same reason: whether or not anyone actually stopped to ask the child first.

Comment 'BOARD' below and I’ll send you the exact readiness checklist I use with families to help make this call. 👇

Relocating with school-aged children? Packing the house is the simple part - securing the school places on time is where most international assignments derail.

Three school application realities pass before most families even start looking:

Missing these timing milestones shrinks your choices from top-tier schools to *wherever happens to have a space*.

Comment RELO for the exact relocation timeline I've put together for relocating families and mobility leaders.

Waiting until primary school to switch to an international school is one of the biggest admissions risks parents take.

By Year 1 or Primary 1, you aren't applying to an open intake; you're competing for a tiny handful of seats left behind if a child leaves.

K2/Reception is still a major, active entry point. But those application deadlines close in a few weeks. Once that window closes, you aren't applying anymore; you're sitting on a waiting list.

The Strategy:

➡️ Map your child's profile today
➡️ Target 3 best-fit schools
➡️ Use the earliest entry point available (last one being K2)

Comment TIMING with your child's current DOB, and I’ll reply to say if you still have time or not.

Most "top" schools are very similar 🐮👇

They all showcase the exact same three credentials:

✅ Exceptional exam scores
✅ World-class facilities
✅ A glossy, perfect "brochure"

When every top school in Hong Kong, Singapore, or the UK checks those exact same boxes, those metrics stop being impressive; they just become baseline noise.

Standard brochures/websites tell you about a school's reputation. They tell you zero about whether your child will actually be seen, supported and happy when the classroom door closes. The smartest families don't waste time comparing identical feature lists; they look past the marketing to find a school that actually fits their child's individuality.

Look past the brochure:
How does the school handle a child who struggles, not just the high achievers?
Is emotional well-being built into the culture, or just listed on a slide deck?
Will your child be an active participant, or just another statistic on a results page?

The goal isn't the longest shortlist; it's the right fit.

📲 Share this with a parent who is currently drowning in a pile of school brochures.

What’s the one school admissions question you’ve been too embarrassed to ask out loud? 💬

Let’s clear up a few of the most common ones right now:

"Is it too late to apply for September?"

"Will my child fall behind if we switch curricula?"

"Do I need to make a huge donation to get my child accepted?"

There are no silly questions when it comes to your child’s future; the only real mistake is staying confused in silence.

👇 Drop your real admissions question in the comments below! I'll be answering the best ones in next week's video.

The tuition fee listed on the website? It’s almost never the actual price tag. 🛑

Most families budget for the published price, only to get blindsided three months into the school year by all the extra costs nobody warned them about:

Application & registration fees
Debentures or capital levies
Uniforms & tech packages
Bus routes & activity fees
The "voluntary" building fund (that isn't actually voluntary)

It’s usually not schools being dishonest; it’s just that the full picture is rarely laid out in one clear place before you commit.

You deserve to know the real number before you sign on the dotted line.

👇 Comment "BUDGET" below and I’ll send over our complete Budget Guide (Fees+Levies).

The most important thing a child needs? A calm adult who can stay calm first.
Save this if you work with young children or parent little ones - this is the reminder we all need.

With young children, active listening doesn’t always sound like “tell me what happened.”
Sometimes it looks like watching their behavior, naming what you see, and saying:

“You’re feeling upset.”
“You’re feeling angry.”
“I can see this is hard.”

It doesn’t magically stop the behaviour.
But it does help them borrow your calm until they can find their own.
Not control.
Not perfection.
Just calm, connected response.
