Top tips in being a successful candidate in teaching interviews:
1. Be confident in yourself!
No one will hire a teacher who is avoiding eye contact and who is too shy to teach in front of colleagues.
As a shy person myself, I understand the struggles of feeling reluctant to show my skills.
However, you need to believe in yourself and your teaching abilities. You have completed your TEFL qualification and have probably had at least placement/ tutoring experience in teaching classes before. Believe that you can make a difference in educating others.
2. Be prepared!
Have your resume with you, any teaching resources and memorize teaching strategies. Be prepared for any question that could be asked about you regarding education and teaching.
Not only must you prove you have that knowledge, but you may also be required to show how you use that knowledge to teach. Be prepared to give a lesson demo, any questions and do extra reading on any topics you are unsure of PRIOR to the interview.
3. Ask questions!
Make sure you are also happy with the school you are being interview by. Its important to prove yourself to your future employer, you also need to be happy with them. Especially when working overseas, have all the contract details worked out before you start including payment, start date and working conditions.
Good luck teaching!!
