In the digital age, we receive a constant stream of information, and often feel stressed without even noticing. We worry about missing important updates, missing opportunities, or feeling like everyone else’s life is more exciting than ours.
“Fear of Missing Out” (FOMO) is not just a concern for young people — it is a common emotional response to digital life. As social media and instant messaging become part of everyday life, it’s even more important to slow down, take care of our mental well-being, and make room for ourselves.

Congratulations to our alumna, Fung Lai-chun, for receiving the “The Most Heartwarming Social Workers and Social Work Students” award from the Hong Kong Social Workers Association. 🎉👏
Growing up, Lai-chun experienced hardship and was touched by the kindness of her neighbours. A warm box of pork ribs rice inspired her to pursue a career in social welfare. In her sharing, she also recalled how volunteer support helped a mother with postnatal depression find the strength to carry on. For Lai-chun, social work is not just about service — it is about care, connection, and paying kindness forward. 💛
Warmest congratulations to Lai-chun, and thank you for your passion, professionalism, and care in bringing warmth and positive change to the community. 🌟

Congratulations to Social Work student Wong Yik-laam for receiving the “The Most Heartwarming Social Workers and Social Work Students” award and the “The Most Heartwarming Social Worker, The Best of the Best” award from the Hong Kong Social Workers Association (HKSWA). 🎉👏
In his sharing, Yik-laam reflected on his practicum experience and how it taught him to look beyond labels and see the stories, dignity, and agency behind every service user. One caregiving case involving a mother and son left a lasting impression on him, reminding him that the value of social work can be found in many different ways. Even a small act of kindness can make a real difference to those in need. 💛
Warmest congratulations to Yik-laam, and thank you for your passion, empathy, and professionalism in making a positive impact on society.🌟

🎉We are happy to announce that Dr. Gao Xuan, Prof. To Siu Ming, and Dr. Zhao Yuhan have recently published their latest paper titled "Resistance Among Youths With Mental Illnesses in China in the Context of Parent–Child Relationships: The Integration of Modern and Postmodern Perspectives".📄✨
🔬 The study interviewed 16 family pairs in Guangzhou and found that Chinese youths with mental health issues, in the context of parent–child conflicts, not only resisted their parents but also resisted dominant social discourses, including beliefs that emphasize closeness, the discourse of education, the discourse of hardship tolerance, and the public belief in slenderness, which may also affect their mental health.🧠💭
Congratulations to all three! 👏👏👏

When we hesitate over small things and keep putting off big decisions, it can leave us feeling more anxious and drained. 😣⏳
Procrastination is not always about laziness — more often, it comes from a lack of decisiveness that keeps us from taking action early.
By practicing decision-making in everyday choices, we can gradually build decisiveness, reduce procrastination, and create a life that feels more organized and at ease. 🌱✨

People in mental health recovery face significant challenges when reintegrating into society.
Beyond readjusting to everyday life, they may also encounter stigma, misunderstanding, and discrimination from the wider community, making the recovery journey even more difficult.
Meaningful acceptance goes beyond words. It begins with understanding. The public can help create a more inclusive and dignified social environment for every person in recovery through our language, attitudes, and actions. 🤝💛🌱

While the debate over whether we should use AI continues, artificial intelligence is no longer a single thing. It is evolving into small models, local deployment, and agentic systems that can carry out multi-step work autonomously. In social work, what does this mean for practice, teaching, and research?🤖📚
If you are interested in how the social work field can seize this moment of change rather than be driven by technology, join us for a seminar by Professor Brian E. Perron as we explore how to build AI solutions that are more practical and relevant to the profession.🎓💡
