ESF Sha Tin College This is the official page for Sha Tin College, an English medium secondary school. Of course, our school is not just concerned with academic success.

Welcome to Sha Tin College, an English Schools Foundation (ESF) secondary school for students aged 11-
18 years. Sha Tin College opened in September 1982 to meet the increasing demand for places from families
in Northern Kowloon and the New Territories. The school provides 1,250 places and has over 30 nationalities
represented in the student body. Sha Tin College is committed to providing the best

possible teaching and
learning experiences for every student through the medium of English. The education provided leads to a
variety of internationally recognised examinations where our students perform exceptionally well in all
academic areas. After graduating, our students gain entry to some of the best universities and colleges
around the world. These achievements are remarkable given that we are a non-selective school and accept
students with a wide range of abilities. Our Curriculum
Students in Years 7-9 follow a broad-based IB MYP curriculum, leading to the I/GCSE in a variety of subjects for
Years 10 -11. In Years 12 -13 students undertake the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma
Programme or Career-related Programme (IBDP/CP) for the last two years of Senior School. We place great emphasis on the wide
variety of extra-curricular activities, sporting competitions, cultural events and contributions to service
learning initiatives and service within a local, regional and global context. Accreditation
As part of quality assurance, Sha Tin College has undergone a series of review and accreditation processes
which include: IB 5-year review; ESF internal review; and ESF stakeholder surveys. These reviews and self
evaluations guide and assist the school in its strategic developmental planning as well as ensuring quality
through rigorous accreditations.

We are thrilled to announce our May/June 2026 I/GCSE results! 🎓

It is with immense sadness that we share the news that Mary Paciello passed away last Friday, after a period of illness. Mary was surrounded by her loving family, at their home in Wales.

Mary, and her husband Neil Harris, retired from Sha Tin College just two years ago, after working with us for 34 years. Mary joined STC in Sept 1990 and retired from ESF in Aug 2024. Those who knew Mary admired and respected her immensely, and I know that she will be very fondly remembered by many of you.

Mary was a passionate educator and a powerful advocate for her students. Successive generations of Sha Tin College students and families benefitted from her expertise, care and guidance. In her many years working with us, Mary undertook a number of roles, most notably as a Head of Music and a teacher of Music, a Head of Year and a Learning Diversity teacher.

As we grieve Mary, we extend our sincerest condolences to Neil, and her family and friends, for their profound loss.

May she rest in peace.

In July, Jason Tang (Y13) interviewed His Excellency Surangel Whipps Jr., the President of the Republic of Palau in Koror. ✨He had the privilege of sitting down with a Head of State who is a global leader in ocean conservation and the upcoming chair of the Pacific Islands Forum.

Their interview touched on the green transition, Pacific leadership and Palau's cultural heritage of ocean stewardship. Palau protects 80% of its exclusive economic zone, created the world’s first shark sanctuary and became the first nation to ratify the UN High Seas Treaty.

Jason is currently writing features and opinion pieces for notable papers to raise awareness about threats to our high seas, and highlight Palau’s conservation model. He hopes more people in Hong Kong, especially young people, will travel to Palau and experience its untouched natural wonders and warmth of the incredible Palauan people firsthand.🤝

Six of our Year 12 students spent 3 days of their summer holiday competing in the Physical AI Hackathon🤝. Qualifying from over 1000 applications, they were the only high school team up against university students including PhD candidates👏. Out of 167 selected participants, they were one of 12 teams to reach the finals, and won HK$10,000!

On Sunday 28 June, Hong Kong Cancer Fund's Stride for a Cure walkathon took place☀.

We are proud to announce that our school won the School Cup once again for being the top fundraising school for this year's event👏. As a community, we raised HKD55,829.70 for Hong Kong Cancer Fund.
