❛❛The Philippines Study Tour was a very valuable and impressive experience for me. As a Public Health student, this trip helped me reflect more deeply on my future career path, especially after visiting the Emergency Operations Centre at the World Health Organisation. Through this experience, I realised the importance of public health in preparedness, emergency response, humanitarian work, and supporting community health. The trip also allowed us to exchange ideas with students and professionals from different backgrounds, which helped me appreciate the value of diverse perspectives and experiences.❜❜

🗣️Major WOMG from BSc in Community Health Practice

❛❛My study trip to the University of the Philippines, the ADB, and the WHO shifted my focus from individual care to big-picture policy. It was a treasure to hear personal experiences from the Hong Kong team at the ADB and a privilege to go behind the scenes at the WHO’s Emergency Operations Center where experts monitor the potential health threats like disease outbreaks or natural disasters in real-time.
I’m walking away realizing that true health is not just medical care, it’s about the structural, human-centered reforms we build today.❜❜

Study Tour ✈️ 🏛️ Where Global Policy Meets Innovation! 🚀

Double the visits, double the inspiration! Today, our students explored two major hubs of global health and development:

1️⃣ 𝘼𝙨𝙞𝙖𝙣 𝘿𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝘽𝙖𝙣𝙠 (𝘼𝘿𝘽) 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙦𝙪𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨 🌐 We spent the morning at the Innovation Hub to discuss the future of health systems—specifically how AI, digital health, and equity are transforming the Asia-Pacific region. Special thanks to the ADB team for sharing insight into public health careers on an international scale! 🤖💡

2️⃣ 𝙒𝙃𝙊 𝙍𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙊𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙒𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣 𝙋𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙘 (𝙒𝙋𝙍𝙊)📍Next, we went behind the scenes at the WHO! We were incredibly honour to be welcome by the Regional Director before diving into a packed afternoon of learning. Our students got a front-row seat to global health governance—from touring the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) to learning about primary care, health innovation, and healthy ageing! 💡 To top it off, we wrapped up with an exclusive HR session on WHO career paths and an inspiring exchange with staff working on the ground. 💼🌍

Study Tour ✈️🌍 Inside WHO: Public Health Discovery Journey 

Kickstarting our study tour “Inside WHO: Public Health Discovery Journey,” 15 students from BSc in Public Health, Community Health Practice, and Gerontology arrived in the Philippines and caught some local sights yesterday. 🗺️✨

Today, we visited the College of Public Health, University of the Philippines (UP) Manila.📚✨ It was an incredible morning of academic exchange. From swapping curriculum insights and learning how our neighbours tackle regional health challenges, to touring their beautiful campus—all helping build a stronger cross-regional health network! 🗺️💪

🎓✨ 𝐀𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐧𝐢 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲: 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐈𝐧

Meet Victor Chen (BScPH, 2021 Graduate). From our BSc in Public Health to an MSc at Harvard and his current medical studies at CUHK, Victor’s journey is a masterclass in integrating clinical care with system-level impact. 🌟

After completing his Public Health degree, Victor developed a deep appreciation for the multidimensional nature of health—biological, psychological, social, and environmental. This foundation equipped him with a population-level perspective and research experience that has proven invaluable throughout medical school.

Two years ago, he intercalated at Harvard to earn his MSc, sharpening his ability to navigate complex moral questions at the bedside and beyond.

Now in his final year at CUHK, Victor integrates public health, bioethics, and clinical medicine every day. As he prepares to join the Hospital Authority as a doctor next year, he remains committed to caring for individual patients without losing sight of the broader forces that shape their health.

𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐬: “Public health will challenge you to see the bigger picture, sit with uncomfortable statistics about inequities, and still find hope in prevention and policy. Whether you go on to medical school, research, or global health work, this degree will make you a better thinker, advocate, and leader”.💡

While Victor’s hands will be at the bedside, his Public Health foundation ensures his mind is on the “upstream” forces that shape health. This dual perspective allows him to look beyond immediate symptoms to address the root causes of illness, using his clinical authority to advocate for healthier policies and lead meaningful change within the healthcare system.

We are proud to have provided the foundation for a doctor who heals both the individual and the community! ✨
