A Letterland phonics lesson took an unexpected turn when my student decided the best place for the ABC clothespins was in my hair! I had her say and identify the letters properly before she "styled" it! Great fun and good practice. You can find clothespins and letter stickers in many places in Hong Kong. Teaching customized to a student's interest like this is much harder and more time consuming than using pre-produced worksheets, but it usually gets better results. Sometimes it's the only thing that gets results.

Montessori By Mom
One of my customers introduced me to "Montessori By Mom". They have done a good job of finding materials and pulling them all together, along with a good set of instructions and curriculium. When moms, friends or other teachers ask me for a recommendation on how to teach their children Science, I now recommend using Montessori By Mom materials. I've been able to get anywhere from 2 - 5 lessons out of a box, depending on a child's knowledge of the subject and interest level.
