This is why its so important to keep monitoring our corals and see where restoration work is needed the most!
Last week, NOAA announced that the 4th global bleaching event has ended. From early-2023 to mid-2025, approximately 84% of coral reef ecosystems around the world were impacted, making it the largest bleaching event to date.

Strong divers don’t just explore — they look out for each other. Rescue diver training builds the mindset and skills that make every dive safer. If you haven’t taken the PADI Rescue Diver yet, this is your sign!! Rescue diver training brings out the best in divers: teamwork, awareness, and the ability to help when it matters most.
Contact Sai Kung Scuba today to become a Rescue Diver, we hold classes monthly and can’t wait to work with YOU!!

The SKS team is partnering with the Swire Institute of Marine Science (SWIMS) to teach divers about coral monitoring!
We had a busy weekend teaching divers all about the global damage to coral reefs along with the importance of collecting data. This great group of marine citizen scientists spent the day identifying and categorizing different kinds of coral in Sai Kung. Their efforts help researchers maximize data collection contributing to the long term goal of finding solutions to worldwide coral destruction.
Thank you divers and special thank you to Dr. Phil Thompson (also a PADI Dive Master) from SWIMS for sharing your insights and wealth of knowledge.
