David C. Lam Institute for East-West Studies (LEWI) is a consortium of 28 universities from North America, Europe and Asia. LEWI is named after Dr. David C.

The Institute, with Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU or the University) as the host institution and base, was established in 1993 with the aim to foster inter-disciplinary social science and humanities research and cultivate collaborative scholarship between the East and the West. the Global Partnership for Better Cities 2 Sandpit (全球夥伴合作 締造更美好城市)

the Faculty of Social Sciences of HKBU , David C. Lam Institute for East-West Studies 林思齊東西學術交流研究所 - LEWI, HKBU International Office and Georgia State University.

The Sandpit will be held at WLB109, HKBU. Professor Raymond SO Wai-man BBS JP, Under Secretary for Transport and Housing, the Hong Kong Government, will deliver a keynote speech at 6pm to 8pm on 1 December 2017 (Friday).

Scholars from the U.S.A, South Africa, Netherlands etc. will make presentations on 2 December 2017 (Saturday).

The programme is divided into following sessions:

- Governance, institutions and managing cities
- Migrants and newcomers in cities
- Segregation, difference, and polarisation
- Young people negotiating sexual and ethnic minority status in cities
- Better cities & vibrant praxis
