One space. A whole different meaning.

Did you know that everyday and every day don't have the same meaning?

📖 Everyday (one word) is an adjective that describes something common or ordinary.
Example: These are my everyday shoes.

📅 Every day (two words) means each day.
Example: I wear my everyday shoes every day.

Knowing the difference helps children write more accurately and build confidence in their English.

💬 Can you use "everyday" and "every day" correctly? Give it a try in the comments!

Two words. One whole new meaning.

Did you know that rain + bow = rainbow 🌈 and brain + storm = brainstorm 💡?

These are called compound words — words formed by combining two smaller words to create a brand-new meaning.

Learning compound words doesn't just help children learn new vocabulary. It also strengthens the reading skills they use every day by helping them:
📖 Expand their vocabulary
🧩 Recognise familiar words within longer words
📚 Read with greater fluency and confidence
✍️ Improve their spelling
💡 Understand how words are formed

When children can break bigger words into smaller, familiar ones, reading becomes much less intimidating. Small building blocks can make a big difference in your child's reading journey.

💬 What's your child's favourite compound word? Share it with us in the comments!

A little phonics practice each day can go a long way. 📚

Every sound a child learns strengthens the foundation for reading success and helps build confidence with words.

This is just the beginning of the phonics journey. Follow along as we continue exploring the sounds that help children become confident and capable readers.

Even confident English speakers make these mistakes from time to time.

Can you spot what's wrong? 👀

❌ Dateline
❌ Bagpack
❌ Loose the game
❌ Then/Than confusion

Small language mistakes can make a big difference. The good news? They're easy to fix once you know what to look out for.

How many did you get right?

📚 Is your child reading… or just memorising?

Many children memorise words by sight at first but memorisation has a ceiling. As words get harder, they often get stuck.

At I Can Read, we teach children how to decode words by understanding the sounds behind them, building confident and independent readers!

How do you help a child develop a genuine love for reading? 📖❤️

It all comes down to meeting your child at their stage of development. Whether they are discovering their first sounds, learning to read with confidence, or exploring more complex stories, the right support makes all the difference.

Every child’s reading journey is unique and with the right guidance, reading can become something they truly enjoy for life.

Strong readers aren’t rushed — they’re nurtured.

Confidence doesn’t come from doing more, but from doing the right things consistently:
✔ Reading together
✔ Talking about the story
✔ Celebrating small wins

It’s the little moments, repeated daily, that make the biggest difference.
