“Your social battery is running low. You may want to charge it asap🔋”
There’s a social battery inside each of us. Some people can stay at 90% or above for long periods of time, showing up energetically every day for all kinds of activities. Others may need some “me time” to preserve their energy and avoid social burnout
As an introvert, my daily social battery lasts only about four hours. If I overdo it socially, I’ll spend the next few days not wanting to talk. There is a pretty interesting term to describe this situation: “social hangover.” It is the label given for a kind of temporary burnout experienced after lots of social interaction. Kind of like a real hangover😵💫
So how can you avoid it?
It might sound cliché, but the key is really about finding balance: once you’ve hit your limit, don’t push yourself. Just like after a hangover, you reach for some hangover soup to ease the discomfort. The cure for a social hangover might be reading a book, watching a movie, or just sitting by the sea with the breeze on your face🌬️
If you ask me where is my favorite place to recharge?
My answer: my bed lol🛏️😴
Feel free to share your favorite place to “plug-in”🔌
📹 & ✍🏼 Kevin Zhou

I love collecting light because it infuses ordinary moments with unique charm and offers me healing. The sun brings vitality, the moonlight provides serenity. When heading back to the dorm alone at night, the streetlights guide my way, and the shadows cast by the light seem like companions. In the process of collecting light, I‘ve learned to focus, to notice those things that gradually bring me warmth, to find myself and beauty.
At HKUST, I want to encourage everyone to collect light, embracing every form of it here. Collecting light is like charging your soul; the more you gather, the brighter the path ahead becomes. I hope that while you’re buried in deadlines, you‘ll remember to look up the beautiful moments light bestows, letting it energize you. When you feel exhausted, try collecting the light!

📹 & ✍🏼 Spencer Liu
Lately, people keep asking me: “Aren’t you scared of falling behind? Everyone’s grinding so hard, and you’re just… chilling?”
For me, being a “chill guy” isn’t about slacking off — it’s a mindset. It’s telling yourself to pause for a cup of tea when your brain’s fried from studying. It’s dragging your friends for a workout after a heavy hotpot feast. It’s sitting by the sea alone when you feel lost, letting the waves reset your mind.
I’ve realized that real friendship isn’t about burning out together. It’s about finding our own rhythm in this fast-paced world. We lock in and study hard, but we also give each other permission to breathe.
Have you given yourself a break today?
