MedTechX 2026 concluded successfully! 🎉 Over three inspiring days, leading global scholars, clinical experts, and industry pioneers gathered at PolyU to engage in in‑depth dialogue under the theme “Belt and Road AI+ Healthcare Innovation.” From molecular chaperones to proton therapy, from digital pathology to AI imaging, every presentation was a true feast of knowledge. 【看不見的長者健康風險？理大首創篩查工具識別「社會衰弱」👴🔍 】

不少人以為長者感到孤獨只是心情不好或缺乏陪伴，但若長期處於社會孤立、缺乏支援與資源的狀態下，會直接增加身體衰退等生理風險，即醫學上所指的『社會衰弱』📉。

為及早察覺隱形風險，理大護理學院副學院主任（策略）及副教授 Jed MONTAYRE 教授帶領的研究團隊，研發全港首個「社會衰弱十項篩查工具」（SF-10）📋 。工具從基本資源、社會參與、社交連結、人際關係及自我管理五大範疇評估，協助前線人員快速識別高危長者，並配合世衛推廣的「社會處方」全人健康模式，透過非醫療服務促進身心健康。

此外，團隊亦證實以自然為本、結合社交的非藥物介入，能有效減輕認知障礙長者的躁動行為。理大正積極擴大驗證並攜手社區夥伴，推動成果轉化為日常應用，為香港構建更具預防性、可持續且以人為本的照護模式。🤝✨

【An Unseen Health Risk: PolyU Pioneers HK’s First Screening Tool to Detect "Social Frailty" in Older Adults 👴🔍】

Loneliness and social isolation in older people are often dismissed as just a lack of companionship. However, prolonged deficits in social support and resources can directly increase the risk of physical decline, known as “Social Frailty” 📉.

To identify these hidden risks early, a research team led by Prof. Jed MONTAYRE, Associate Head (Strategy) and Associate Professor of PolyU’s School of Nursing, has developed Hong Kong’s first Social Frailty 10-item Screening Tool (SF-10) 📋. By assessing five key domains: general resources, social participation, social connections, interpersonal relationships and self-management, the tool enables frontline staff to quickly identify at-risk seniors and connect them to WHO-advocated “Social Prescribing” models through non-medical community support.

Furthermore, the team's research confirms that socially engaged, nature-based non-pharmacological interventions significantly reduce agitation in older adults with dementia. PolyU is actively expanding validation and partnering with community stakeholders to translate these findings into everyday practice, building a more preventive, sustainable and person-centred care ecosystem for Hong Kong. 🤝✨

理大應用社會科學系 (APSS) 崔永康教授、譚建元博士及吳子傑博士早前代表研究團隊，出席立法會福利事務委員會會議，發表香港精準扶貧項目的成效評估報告，為政府政策提供客觀的科學依據。

扶貧委員會最新發布的宣傳亦引述了相關評估數據 — 由「在校課後託管服務計劃」高達 85% 的整體成效，到「社區客廳試行計劃」在改善居住環境及拓展社交網絡上獲得逾 90% 的正面評價，足見理大應用社會科學團隊的實證研究成果，切實反映出各項扶貧措施為基層家庭帶來顯著改善。📈💚

【📊Driving Poverty Alleviation Policy with Scientific Assessment & Evidence】
Prof. Eric CHUI, Dr Raymond TAM and Prof. Jacky NG from PolyU APSS recently represented their research team to present the impact assessment reports of Targeted Poverty Alleviation Initiatives at a meeting of the LegCo Panel on Welfare Services, providing vital scientific evidence to inform government policymaking.

The Commission on Poverty also highlighted key evaluation metrics from the report in its latest promotional video — ranging from an impressive 85% overall effectiveness rate for the “School-based After-School Care Service Scheme”, to over 90% positive feedback for the “Community Living Room Pilot Scheme” in improving living environments and expanding social networks. These findings demonstrate how the PolyU APSS team’s empirical research meaningfully reflects the tangible benefits these initiatives bring to underprivileged families. 📈💚
