Check out the new Smart Food Waste Bins at HKUST! ♻️
The 19 new Smart Food Waste Bins are now available across student halls and staff residences as part of our “Life Beyond the Bin” campaign. This is Hong Kong’s first self-financed food waste smart recycling bin program by an academic institution—demonstrating HKUST’s commitment to sustainability.
Here’s why it matters: HKUST produces around 1.4 metric tons of food waste each day, with about 5.7% that comes from student halls and staff residences. By improving food-waste separation, more valuable organic resources can be recovered. 🌿
Help us make our campus more sustainable and use the GREEN$ mobile app to recycle food waste and earn rewards! 💚

Thank you to our HKUST community for making Drop and Adopt a success! 🎉
We’re excited to share the success of our latest Drop and Adopt cycle! Launched in Fall 2024, this initiative supports new students and tackles waste during semester transitions. ♻️
This fall, our community rallied together to donate 1,073 kg of preloved items, showcasing the power of empathy and sustainability. A huge thank you to the Campus Removal Team for collecting items and to the over a dozen volunteers who sorted and prepared them for resale! 🙌
Check out the impact from our Fall/Winter 2025-26 cycle, along with our achievements that benefited over 1,400 community members since 2024!
Thank you once again for making this possible! Let’s continue to build on this success for a greener HKUST! 🌍💚

🌍 Repairing the Planet: Small Fixes, Big Changes 🔧
On 21 November, 20 passionate HKUST students and staff came together for an inspiring Small Electronic Appliance Maintenance Volunteer Training Workshop led by Household Electronic Reborn !
Learning vital safety tips and essential maintenance skills, our participants dove into hands-on repairs, giving new life to electronic fans. 💪 These repaired fans will be donated to communities in need, making a real difference! 🎉
Let’s embrace the habit of reuse and repair to extend the life of the items we own! 🙌💚
A huge thank you to the Zonta Club of Victoria Hong Kong for sponsoring the program, that allowed our community to learn about Household Electronic Reborn’s work. This workshop was co-organized by HKUST Connect and the HKUST Impact Makers program.

🌱✨ Sustainable Landscaping Volunteer Workshop at HKUST! ✨🌱
We're proud to share that HKUST hosted its very own stop during 's Inter-Company Volunteer Week! Alongside amazing volunteers from UBS and MTR, we came together to embrace sustainable landscaping practices.
Under the guidance of our Arborist, Mr. Wicky Tim Chun LEE, and the Landscaping Team from the Campus Management Office, we learned how to enhance our vibrant campus environment and boost local biodiversity.
🚜 Our hands-on activities included mowing the LG7 lawn and applying woodchips on the LG5 bridge link to improve soil quality and water retention, while also reducing weeds!
A heartfelt thank you to our 11 volunteers for making an impact at the HKUST stop! 🌍❤️
