【From Yunnan to Laos: CLASS student Caleb Hon Chi-wang gains invaluable insights through an international legal exchange journey!】
Caleb HON Chi-wang, a student of CityUHK’s Bachelor of Social Sciences in Criminology and Bachelor of Laws Double Degree programme, took part in the second “Belt and Road” Visit Programme for Young Hong Kong International Legal Talents from 18 to 24 July. Jointly organised by the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the HKSAR and the Hong Kong International Legal Talents Training Academy under the HKSAR Department of Justice, the programme brought together 20 young legal professionals.

During the visit, Caleb travelled to Yunnan and Laos, where he learned about rural revitalisation initiatives, the talent-development model of the China–Laos Railway, and legal education and women’s development in the legal profession through exchanges with Lao judicial authorities. The experience provided valuable practical exposure and broadened his international perspective.

At the sharing session held at the Commissioner’s Office on 27 July, Caleb was selected as one of four speakers to share his reflections before Commissioner Mr Cui Jianchun and Secretary for Justice Mr Paul Lam. His participation demonstrated the professional competence and international outlook of CLASS students.

✨ CityUHK CAMS - Keynote Speech by Professor Kosuke IMAI from Harvard University

Interested in how GenAI can transform causal and predictive inference? Join the upcoming CAMS keynote seminar, GenAI Powered Inference, featuring Professor Kosuke IMAI, Edith and Benjamin Geisinger Professor of Government and of Statistics at Harvard University. In this talk, Professor Imai will introduce GenAI-Powered Inference (GPI), a framework that leverages generative AI models to support inference over unstructured data, such as text and images. The session will demonstrate how these methods can be applied in real research settings, making it especially relevant to scholars and students working on data-intensive social science questions.

Date: 10 August 2026 (Monday)
Time: 5:15 PM – 7:00 PM
Mode: Hybrid (In-person / Zoom)
Venue: LI-1503, 1/F, Li Dak Sum Yip Yio Chin Academic Building, CityUHK

Abstract
We introduce GenAI-Powered Inference (GPI), a statistical framework for both causal and predictive inference using unstructured data. GPI leverages open-source Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) models – such as large language models and diffusion models – not only to generate unstructured data at scale but also to extract low-dimensional representations that capture their underlying structure. We illustrate the versatility of the GPI framework through three applications involving texts, images, and videos.
