Studying in Hong Kong can also be a post-graduation pathway.

Parents often ask what happens after graduation.

Under Hong Kong’s Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates (IANG), eligible non-local graduates who obtained an undergraduate or higher qualification in a full-time locally accredited programme in Hong Kong may apply to stay or return for 24 months without other conditions of stay, if they apply within six months after graduation.

Recent public discussion has noted that Hong Kong’s graduate job market is more competitive, while the government has said the IANG framework remains in place. For families, the practical takeaway is simple: treat Hong Kong as a serious study-and-career pathway — but plan early, build language and internship exposure, and check official guidance for eligibility.

This is general information only. Families should check official immigration guidance and institution advice for their own situation.

Save this for your Hong Kong study planning folder.

Before choosing student accommodation, parents should ask these 7 questions.

A room is only one part of the decision. For inbound students, parents should also ask:

1. How safe is the building and surrounding area — including fire safety, electrical appliance rules and emergency exits?
2. How long is the commute to school?
3. Who can students contact in an emergency?
4. Are guardian / school communication arrangements clear?
5. What support is available before and during move-in?
6. What are the house rules and age/gender arrangements?
7. Are the provider identity, documents, fees, deposits, refund terms and official contact channels clear?

If your family is speaking with schools or housing providers this month, save this checklist first. Clear written terms, verified contact channels and basic fire/electrical safety checks help families avoid confusion, rental scams and unsafe arrangements.

Tung Wah College President Prof. Sally Chan and Youth Dorm Founder Raymond Lam at the signing ceremony, deepening their accommodation partnership for the 2026/27 academic year.

According to Wen Wei Po, Youth Dorm Tsim Sha Tsui will continue as Tung Wah College's dedicated student residence, while Youth Dorm Sheung Wan will become a second student accommodation point, providing about 120 additional bed spaces for TWC students.

For non-local families, this matters because accommodation is no longer a side issue — it is part of the study-in-Hong-Kong decision. School, commute, safety, community and student support need to be planned together.

Youth Dorm will continue building accommodation that helps students settle, study and belong in Hong Kong.

Student housing is becoming part of Hong Kong’s education infrastructure.

Hong Kong’s education-hub strategy is not only about classrooms. Accommodation is now part of the city-level conversation.

The Government launched the Hostels in the City Scheme in July 2025 to facilitate more student hostel supply. As at March 2026, the Education Bureau said 30 applications had been received, with 28 approved, involving about 6,400 hostel places.

For inbound families, the message is simple: housing should be planned early, alongside school, visa and arrival arrangements.

Need help comparing student accommodation options before arrival? Message Youth Dorm.

Hong Kong is opening more seats for non-local students.

From the 2026/27 academic year, Hong Kong will raise the non-local student enrolment ceiling for publicly funded post-secondary taught programmes from 40% to 50% of local student places.

For families comparing study destinations, this is a clear policy signal: Hong Kong is actively building its role as an international education hub.

It does not guarantee admission to any school or programme — but it does show the direction of travel.

Another higher education institution has chosen Youth Dorm.

Following our 2025 partnership with Tung Wah College, Youth Dorm is honoured to enter a new collaboration with THEi (Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong).

For students and parents, this is more than a partnership announcement. It is another vote of confidence from Hong Kong’s higher education sector — recognising Youth Dorm’s commitment to safe, reliable, and professionally managed student accommodation.
As more education partners place their trust in Youth Dorm, we remain focused on the same promise: giving students a dependable home in Hong Kong, and giving families greater confidence in the choice they make.

The Hong Kong student housing market is scaling fast — even full hotels are now being acquired for student accommodation.

Today's market signals are clear: student accommodation is no longer a niche sector in Hong Kong. Major capital is entering the space, converting entire hotels into student housing.

This proves the demand. But it does not answer a more important question: for a student aged 12 to 18, leaving home for the first time, what do they actually need?

A bed is not care. A renovated property is not care. Furniture and amenities are not care.

At Youth Dorm, what we provide goes beyond hardware:

👨🏫 Growth Mentors — daily academic and pastoral follow-up
📋 AEGIS-aligned standards — international guardianship framework applied to every property
🏠 Structured living — rhythm, routine, and companionship, not self-service accommodation
🤝 17 years in education — student-first logic, not property-first logic

Hong Kong may be scaling student housing quickly.
But for a child aged 12 to 18, scale is still not the same as care.

In a market without a single unified licence for student accommodation, integrity is the only credential that counts.

There is no single licence for student accommodation in Hong Kong. There is only how you choose to operate.

Student accommodation in HK is governed by a complex web of regulations across multiple departments — Buildings Department, Fire Services Department, Planning Department, and others. No unified licensing regime exists. That ambiguity makes it easy for operators to cut corners quietly.

Youth Dorm does not cut corners.

Our core team spent 17 years working inside Hong Kong's international education sector — understanding every challenge students and families face when building a life here. When we launched Youth Dorm in 2024, we brought all of that into how we operate: carefully, rigorously, and to a standard that no regulation demands but every student deserves.

What that looks like in practice:
✅ International child safety standards — self-imposed guardianship framework
✅ Full-time pastoral care staff, on-site, around the clock
✅ Careful compliance across all applicable regulatory requirements
✅ Purpose-built facilities designed for student living — not converted hotel rooms
✅ Academic-year lease structure — stability by design

We are not new to understanding what these students need. We are new to the address.

In an industry without a single rulebook, integrity is the standard. That is the one we hold ourselves to.

The academics matter. The grades matter. But at the end of the day, what parents really want to know is: "Will my child be happy there?" 💙

Here's what a typical day looks like at Youth Dorm — not the brochure version. The real one.

☀️ 6:30am — Wake up. Morning broadcast gets everyone moving.
🍳 7:30am — Breakfast together. Hot food, options for every diet. Someone's telling a story about yesterday's football match.
📚 8:30am — Off to school. The MTR ride with the same group every morning becomes its own kind of ritual.
🏠 4:30pm — Back at the dorm. The common room is the default gathering spot.
🍜 6:00pm — Dinner. A rotating menu with Cantonese, Thai, Indonesian influences. Halal-friendly always.
✏️ 7:00pm — Supervised study time. It's quiet now. Staff check every subject is done.
🌙 9:30pm — Wind down. FaceTime home. Lights out.

In the first week, students feel the distance from home. By the second week, they've made their first real friends. By the end of term, this place is home.

Hong Kong has 4 types of schools. For international families, it really comes down to 3 — and DSS is often the smartest middle path.

What is DSS?
DSS (Direct Subsidy Scheme) schools are government-subsidised but independently run — so they can set their own fees, admissions, and curriculum (IB/IGCSE/A-Level/HKDSE), while staying inside Hong Kong’s mainstream system.

Why families choose DSS
• More pathway choice than Govt/Aided schools
• Strong school culture + results
• Usually far lower cost than private/international schools

The 3 groups most families compare
1) Govt + Aided (free): 800+ schools, mainly local curriculum
2) DSS (subsidised + selective): multiple curricula, competitive entry
3) Private/International (full fee): ~100 schools, highest cost

Quick facts
• HK IB avg: 36.72 (global 30.58) | Pass rate: 97%
• 2025 global IB Top 10: 2 are DSS (SPCC #2; DBS #7)
• From Sep 2026/27: 48/78 DSS (62%) can expand non-local intake
