Nominations for our Department’s Outstanding Alumni Awards are now open, and we need your help to recognise the remarkable achievements of our alumni community.

🎓 From PolyU ENGL to Oxford: An Alumna's Inspiring Journey 🌍

Our BA alumna, Dr Amy Xu (graduated in 2016), delivered a talk on 12 November 2025 to share her inspiring academic journey. Jointly organised by the Faculty of Humanities, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, our Department, and the Department of English Alumni Association (DEAA), the alumni talk attracted around 30 students, staff, and alumni.

Amy reflected on the student-led projects she initiated at PolyU and her exchange experience in the US—key experiences that sparked her interest in linguistics and led her to pursue postgraduate studies at Oxford. She graduated with a DPhil in General Linguistics and Comparative Philology in 2022 and is now a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow at Oxford.

Her story is a powerful example of how an English major can open doors to diverse and exciting academic and professional pathways. 🌟

We are thrilled to welcome back one of our distinguished alumni, who has made remarkable strides in linguistics. This is a fantastic opportunity to hear firsthand about the journey from PolyU ENGL to the prestigious University of Oxford.

The talk is jointly organised by the Faculty of Humanities, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Department of English and Communication, and the Department of English Alumni Association.

【5 days left❗️】Call for Nominations - Outstanding Alumni Award 2025 of the Department of English and Communication at PolyU🏆

This esteemed award aims to honour exceptional graduates of PolyU for their significant contributions in their respective fields and active support to their alma mater.

All graduates👩‍🎓🧑‍🎓who have successfully completed full-time or part-time programmes offered by the Department of English and Communication (or Department of English before 1 September 2021) are eligible for nomination.

Recognition will be awarded in three specific areas of achievement:
✅ Professional Achievement
✅ Entrepreneurial Achievement
✅ Scholarly Achievement

There is also a special recognition for outstanding young alumni awardees. Candidates aged 40 or under in the award year are eligible for the Outstanding PolyU Young Alumni award in one of the three areas mentioned.
