【理大精英學生運動員｜為佩劍代表陳樂熹打氣！🤺】

剛於香港主場完成「世界劍擊錦標賽2026」的連場激戰，理大精英學生運動員、香港男子佩劍新星陳樂熹未有停下腳步，現正全力備戰九月的第二十屆亞運會！

樂熹於2022年透過「學生運動員學習支援及入學計劃」（SALSA）入讀理大社會政策及社會創業（榮譽）文學士課程。作為全職運動員，他憑藉堅毅意志跨越傷患，近年表現亮眼，曾於全運會及上屆杭州亞運勇奪團體賽八強，逐步躍升為港隊佩劍領軍人物之一。

賽場以外，樂熹同樣全力以赴。他努力平衡繁重學業與高強度訓練，展現出極高的自律性，體現理大學生運動員勇於挑戰、超越自我的精神。

【PolyU Elite Student-Athlete | Cheering on Fencer Royce CHAN! 🤺】

Having just completed a series of fierce battles on home ground at the World Fencing Championships 2026 in Hong Kong, PolyU elite student-athlete and Hong Kong's rising men's sabre star Royce CHAN Lok Hei is not slowing down. He is now fully gearing up for the 20th Asian Games this September!

Royce was admitted to the BA (Hons) in Social Policy and Social Entrepreneurship in 2022 through the Student-Athlete Learning Support and Admission Scheme (SALSA). As a full-time athlete, he has overcome injuries with unwavering determination. Thanks to his stellar performances in recent years—including impressive top-eight finishes in the team events at the National Games and the previous Hangzhou Asian Games—he has gradually risen to become one of the leading figures in Hong Kong's men's sabre team.

Off the piste, Royce is equally dedicated. Striving to strike a balance between his demanding academic pursuits and high-intensity training, he demonstrates profound self-discipline, perfectly embodying the PolyU student-athlete spirit of embracing challenges and daring to excel.

Drawing on the valuable major tournament experience gained from the World Championships, Royce is set to represent Hong Kong once again on the grandest stage of Asian sports. Let’s cheer him on! May he compete with composure, perform at his absolute best, and bring glory to both Hong Kong and PolyU at the upcoming Asian Games! 💪✨

理大應用社會科學系 (APSS) 崔永康教授、譚建元博士及吳子傑博士早前代表研究團隊，出席立法會福利事務委員會會議，發表香港精準扶貧項目的成效評估報告，為政府政策提供客觀的科學依據。
扶貧委員會最新發布的宣傳亦引述了相關評估數據 — 由「在校課後託管服務計劃」高達 85% 的整體成效，到「社區客廳試行計劃」在改善居住環境及拓展社交網絡上獲得逾 90% 的正面評價，足見理大應用社會科學團隊的實證研究成果，切實反映出各項扶貧措施為基層家庭帶來顯著改善。📈💚

【📊Driving Poverty Alleviation Policy with Scientific Assessment & Evidence】
Prof. Eric CHUI, Dr Raymond TAM and Prof. Jacky NG from PolyU APSS recently represented their research team to present the impact assessment reports of Targeted Poverty Alleviation Initiatives at a meeting of the LegCo Panel on Welfare Services, providing vital scientific evidence to inform government policymaking.
The Commission on Poverty also highlighted key evaluation metrics from the report in its latest promotional video — ranging from an impressive 85% overall effectiveness rate for the “School-based After-School Care Service Scheme”, to over 90% positive feedback for the “Community Living Room Pilot Scheme” in improving living environments and expanding social networks. These findings demonstrate how the PolyU APSS team’s empirical research meaningfully reflects the tangible benefits these initiatives bring to underprivileged families. 📈💚

自然為本的靜觀課程引起更多對長者照顧者的關注

在智齡的討論中，雖然長者通常是焦點，但其照顧者的幸福感同樣值得重視。

理大應用社會科學系副教授盧希皿最近進行的一項香港研究，探討了自然為本的靜觀課程是否能提升家庭照顧者（包括長者照顧者）的精神健康。研究結果令人鼓舞，尤其是對於尋求更人性化且可持續安老支援模式的學者、實務工作者及政策制定者而言。

這項研究提供了一個極具前景的支援模式：簡短、易於參與，且同時關注心理需求及實際環境。對於長者照顧者而言，參與該課程與抑鬱、焦慮、壓力及身體癥狀程度的改善有關，同時也提升了日常功能及幸福感；隨著時間推移，家庭功能亦有進一步改善。

In smart ageing discussions, while older adults typically take centre stage, the well-being of their caregivers also deserves equal consideration.

A recent Hong Kong study conducted by Prof. Herman Hay Ming LO, Associate Professor of the Department of Applied Social Sciences at PolyU, examined whether a nature-based mindfulness programme could enhance the mental health of family caregivers, including caregivers of older adults. The findings are encouraging, particularly for scholars, practitioners and policymakers seeking more humane and sustainable models of ageing support.

The study offers a promising model of support: brief, accessible and attentive to both psychological needs and physical environment. Among caregivers of older adults, participation in the programme was associated with improvements in levels of depression, anxiety, stress and physical distress, as well as daily functioning and well-being, with additional gains in family functioning over time.

香港有超過 4,300 名 21 歲以下的兒童及青少年因家庭特殊情況，被安排入住兒童住宿照顧服務。

理大很高興能夠協助推動賽馬會「凝伙」計劃，發揮學術專業，為這群孩子的成長路點燃希望！🔥✨ 理大應用社會科學系（APSS）與香港賽馬會慈善信託基金早前為 15位「軌跡發展經理」及67位「兒童之家家長」舉行畢業典禮，慶祝他們順利完成由理大設計、以實證為本的專業培訓課程。🎓

典禮邀得社會福利署助理署長鄒鳳梅女士蒞臨主禮，理大 APSS 講座教授及系主任崔永康教授亦在致辭中強調，學術研究與前線服務的協作，是提升兒童住宿照顧服務質素的關鍵。這批畢業學員已準備就緒，將知識轉化為力量，成為孩子最強大的後盾。

Over 4,300 children and youth under the age of 21 in Hong Kong require residential child care services due to special family circumstances.

PolyU is thrilled to help drive the Jockey Club Project Bonfire, leveraging our academic expertise to ignite hope for these children on their journey of growth. 🔥✨ The Department of Applied Social Sciences (APSS) at PolyU, in partnership with The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, recently hosted a graduation ceremony for 15 Trajectory Development Managers and 67 House Parents to celebrate their successful completion of an evidence-based professional training curriculum designed by PolyU. 🎓

We were honored to have Ms. Wendy Chau, Assistant Director of the Social Welfare Department, officiated the ceremony. Prof. Eric Chui, Chair Professor and Head of APSS at PolyU, emphasised in his speech that collaboration between academic research and frontline services is key to elevating the quality of residential child care service. These graduating practitioners are now fully equipped to translate knowledge into empowerment, standing as the strongest pillars of support for children in care.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to every participant for their dedication. Let’s continue to walk hand-in-hand, supporting the holistic development of our children with professionalism and care. 🫶

Prof. Daniel Shek Named 2025 Highly Ranked Scholar by ScholarGPS

Prof. Daniel Shek has been named a 2025 Highly Ranked Scholar (Lifetime) by ScholarGPS, placing him among the top 0.05% of scholars worldwide. This honour recognises his prolific publication record, high-impact research, and outstanding contributions across multiple fields, including all fields of scholarly endeavours, social sciences, social work, well-being, secondary school, Chinese kinship, adolescence, longitudinal study, and adolescent medicine. Notably, Prof. Shek’s work in social work and Chinese kinship was ranked No. 1 globally in this year’s evaluation. His achievements underscore his significant influence and leadership in academia, as well as his dedication to advancing knowledge and making a lasting impact on society.
