✨ Media Design Graduates Take the Spotlight at “Branches”

Last Saturday, the PolyU Design Media Design Graduation Screening 2026, Branches (《映合》), brought together around 150 attendees at the Jockey Club Auditorium, PolyU, for an inspiring evening of moving image storytelling. The event showcased selected works from the Media Design Class of 2026, exploring diverse themes, creative narratives and emerging technologies through 2D animation and live-action productions.

Organised by Media Design students Xenos Cheuk, Sky Su, Alvis Yeung and Ben Lam, with the support of Media Design faculty and students including Prof. Jae Oh, Dr Amelie Chan, Step Cheung, Xavi Hung, Erica Han, Melody Lo and Helen Mo, the screening featured seven outstanding media works from this year's graduating cohort.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating the creativity, dedication and achievements of our graduating students.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026 on this important milestone and for sharing their stories with the community.

Curious about how our studio projects come to life? The PolyU Design Show 2026 offers guided tours for visitors to explore the exhibition alongside our talented students.
These sessions are a wonderful way to share the creative journey. As The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) connects students with innovation thinkers and designers from around the world, forging new collaborations, these tours naturally open up that engaging environment to all our guests.
Walking the floors with our student ambassadors allows you to hear firsthand about the prototyping processes and the big ideas that shape their work. It is a welcoming space for anyone looking to learn more about design.

本作品以香港洪水橋逐漸消失的傳統士多為研究場域，提出一種重構空間記憶的設計方法。透過將建築剖面轉化為動態工具，並經歷「拆解、操控、重構」三個階段，探索如何以扭曲與重組的手法保存空間經驗，延續地方精神與文化記憶。

This project takes a disappearing traditional provision store in Hung Shui Kiu, Hong Kong, as its site of investigation, proposing a methodology for reconstructing spatial memory. By transforming the architectural section into a dynamic tool and applying a process of deconstruction, manipulation, and reconstruction, it explores how distortion can preserve spatial experience and reinterpret cultural narratives, sustaining the spirit of place.

PolyU Design is hosting a screening of works from the Media Design Class of 2026 graduates. The screening will showcase selected Capstone projects that reflect the graduates’ learning journeys, creative explorations, and storytelling practices.

This year's theme, “Branches” (《映合》), explores how stories between people are brought together to reflect and converge. Through moving image and media works, graduates share the ideas, experiences, and perspectives developed throughout their studies and creative processes.

We are honoured to share this important milestone with industry professionals, distinguished guests, faculty members, families, and friends, and to celebrate the achievements of our graduating students together.

Media Design Graduation Screening 2026

《映合》為香港理工大學設計學院媒體設計畢業作品放映會，讓人與人之間的故事，相映交匯。

是次放映會將呈獻媒體設計畢業生精選影像作品，分享同學們在學習與創作過程中的思考與成果。能夠與業界前輩、嘉賓、師長、親友分享這段創作旅程，對我們而言意義重大。

The Script from Ghosts
何銘禧 HO Ming Hei Brian

在香港高密度城市語境下，混凝土常被視為單一且功能性的建材。本作品重新審視其「擬態性」，將模板（formwork）視為隱形的創作者，探索材料如何被賦予表現性。透過「孔隙」、「纖薄」、「自由形態」與「質感」四種修辭，作品指出空間感知並非源於材料本身，而是來自建構過程中所嵌入的「腳本」，從而重新定義建築的表現與意義。

In the context of Hong Kong’s dense urban environment, concrete is often perceived as a purely functional material. This project re-examines its imitative qualities by positioning formwork as the hidden author shaping its final expression. Through four rhetorics—porosity, thinness, freeform, and texture—the work demonstrates that spatial perception is not inherent to the material, but derived from the “script” embedded within the casting process, ultimately redefining how architecture communicates meaning.

在 MBTI 盛行的時代，個性標籤逐漸成為自我認同的一部分。本作品以 Diptyque 標誌中的「i」為隱喻，描繪個體從城市喧囂中抽離，透過香氣建立一個私密的精神空間。透過結合 MBTI 的數碼體驗，用戶可在不受干擾的情境下探索專屬氣味，重新連結自我，讓香水成為一種無聲卻有力的自我表達。

In an era shaped by MBTI personality labels, identity has become closely tied to self-definition. This project uses the “i” in the Diptyque logo as a metaphor for an individual stepping away from urban noise, presenting fragrance as a private sanctuary. By integrating an MBTI-inspired digital experience, users can explore scents at their own pace without retail pressure, allowing perfume to become a subtle yet powerful expression of the self.
