It’s Chinese Week at AISHK! We’ve been celebrating the rich facets of Chinese language and culture. Students enjoyed a wide range of activities, including a Lion Dance performance, an interactive Chinese Shopping Day where they used Chinese vocabulary to buy items (language learning made fun!), lacquer fan painting, Chinese calligraphy and the traditional game of pitch-pot.
During the Secondary Assembly, students sang Chinese songs and performed short plays about Hong Kong. The celebration ended with a sing-along of a classic 1980s song by Hong Kong rock band Beyond.
And it’s not over yet - tomorrow is Chinese Traditional Clothing Day! Students will be dressed in qipao, kung fu outfits and other attire inspired by Chinese culture.

How can cities adapt to climate change?
Year 11 IB Diploma students tackled this question head-on in their Collaborative Sciences Project - exploring urban heat, flooding, air quality, energy resilience, and water security in cities like Hong Kong.
Working in interdisciplinary teams and drawing on their knowledge from their IB science subjects across biology, chemistry, physics, and design technology, students spent 10 hours problem-solving, collaborating and "thinking outside the box".
The project wrapped up with a showcase on 12 June, where groups presented their findings through display boards, models and demonstrations.
In their own words:
“A memorable moment was definitely the construction and assembly of the models, as it was great to see it come together in real time.”
"It brought the group closer together as we worked with people to solve a real world problem.”
"It was a way for students to apply their unique scientific knowledge to solve real-world problems, thinking outside the box and develop real, transferable teamwork skills."

Throughout the month of May and into June AISHK came together to champion sustainability with charity partners, Redress.
Over five weeks the school collected 19 boxes of clothing, diverting textiles away from landfill. Through the thrift shop, bake sale, and coin drive, the Primary Environmental Committee and Secondary Sustainability Group raised a combined $9,303.70 for Redress, supporting their mission to reduce clothing waste and promote sustainable fashion.
A special congratulations to Eucalypt House for collecting the highest amount in the coin collection.
The environmental and sustainability groups would like to thank every student, staff member and family who participated. Together, we can all make a difference.

AISHK launched its second Artist in Residence project, with textile artist Becky Gilmore from Make and Do HK. Becky has been guiding students from Reception to Year 6 through a range of hands-on activities, including stamping on cloth, weaving and sewing, this week.
The final project will be a series of woven House flowers - Waratah, Jacaranda, Eucalypt and Wattle - to be installed in the atrium later this term.
Here's what students had to say:
"I liked stamping the patterns in all the different colours." - Year 2 student
"I haven't tried weaving before. It's fun working with different colours and I'm excited to see it displayed in the school." - Year 3 student
Becky is a textile artist with a background in the textiles and fashion industry, she specialises in mural work, fibre-based installations, and creative practices using yarn and fabric, often incorporating sustainable and recycled materials. She has worked extensively with schools in Hong Kong, conducting workshops that encourage creativity, experimentation and artistic exploration.
This project has been made possible through funds raised during our first Artist in Residence project with Francesco Lietti, continuing AISHK's commitment to enriching the Arts on campus.

We love to hear about how our alumni are finding life post-AISHK and what they are getting up to. Today, we get a glimpse into the university experience of a Class of 2024 graduate and see what a busy week looks like for her!
