Phonics – how can you help your child at home in a fun way? These practical parent workshops will give you guidance on how you can help your child with reading at home using a phonics based approach. The Phonics at home workshop series comprises two workshops of two hours each, during which you are guided through the principles of synthetic phonics, preparing children to become successful readers playing home-based games, using home phonic resources, learning sounds, using sound-blending for reading, spelling, advancing sound knowledge and other useful tips to use at home. Suitable for children aged 3 – 7 years, it includes play-based ideas to lay the groundwork for younger children as well as more formal techniques for children ready to decode and read. The workshop leader, Rachel Todd, is an experienced teacher/teacher trainer who currently works at Discovery Bay International and Kellett schools and she’s also a Mum. This means she can give parents an inside look as to how things work at school, yet still understands the realities at home when trying to help your child.
