🌏Oceania Festival 2️⃣️0️⃣️1️⃣️8️⃣️

When talking about Oceania, if Australia and New Zealand are what is all in your mind, it is time to think twice, and to think beyond. The Office of Student Affairs is going to organize the first ever Oceania Festival on campus this month, offering a good opportunity to experience the vibrant Oceanian cultures from different, new perspectives. From Australia and New Zealand to the Pacific wonderlands including Guam, Hawaii and Fiji, from cultural booths to workshops and cultural sharing, there will be plentiful ways to discover the wonders of Oceania.

(FULL)*Hula Dance Workshop*
Hula, which combines rhythmic movement and storytelling, is a traditional dance in Hawaii. The professional performers from the Hong Kong International Hula Association are going to conduct three sessions for our students to experience this fun dance while staying at CUHK.

Date: 5, 12 & 16 March 2018
Time: 7:00pm-8:30pm

📣🎉Opening Ceremony & Cultural Booths*
The opening ceremony, in which Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, will be an officiating guest, will officially raise the curtain of the Oceania Festival. The ceremony be a veritable visual feast of various performances. Get ready to be thrilled!

The cultural booths featuring Australian, Chamorro (Guam), Fijian, Hawaiian and Kiwi cultures will be set up to manifest their rich cultures and traditions. Drop by to try on traditional costumes, have a free bite of signature snacks, get tourism information, play fun games, and most important of all, interact with the people from these regions!

🇭🇲😋️Snacks Making Workshop: Great Australian Bite
Lamington is a sponge cake widely popular in Australia. 21 July is even designated as National Lamington Day in the country, which Aussies celebrate by enjoying this signature bite. In this workshop, the Australian students at CUHK are going to teach the participants how to make lamingtons and the other tasty treats, such as fairy bread, spiders and cornflake honey joys. The students will also share the fun cultural knowledge about these snacks!

🐊🎬Movie Screening: Crocodile Dundee
Crocodile Dundee, an action comedy set in the Australian Outback and New York City, was a worldwide box-office success when it was first released in the mid-1980s. This heartwarming yet exciting movie allows audience to peek into the lifestyle of Australian Aborigines and the culture clashes between aboriginality and modernity. A post-screening session will be hosted by the Australian students at CUHK.

🏝️🇫🇯️Cultural Sharing: Fiji - More Than a Tropical Paradise
Fiji is synonymous with a tropical paradise of many people’s dreams - crystal clear waters, white sand beaches, secluded gateways, etc. Other than its enchanting pristine nature, this South Pacific island country also takes pride in its diversified culture and rich history. Come discover the country’s hidden gems in this sharing session to be hosted by Miss Bibiana Malawakula, a Fijian student at CUHK, and Miss Lilian Lam, a local student who went on an internship in Fiji.
