Presenter: Baljit Gidwani
"I have been a photographer for over 45 years, my primary passion being portraiture. In the faces of people I imagine I can read their histories. From the blank pages of a sleeping baby to the epic novels of the aged. I marvel at the turmoil and transformations to which some of their eyes have been witness. In conversing with them and enquiring about their lives, I recognise the evidence of their experiences clearly etched on their faces."

Speaker #2: Kevin Ming
A cultural anthropologist and applied ethnographer, Kevin is Research Director for Project Share, an NGO dedicated to helping disadvantaged young people in Hong Kong realize more and better life opportunities. He is also a Research Associate in Anthropology and a Center Associate in Asian Studies at the University of Pittsburgh. He became an anthropologist after narrowly avoiding law school and has since worked with marginalized communities in mainland China, Hong Kong, and parts of Southeast Asia for nearly the past two decades.
Kevin's current work focuses in part on the emerging conditions in Hong Kong that discourage community and those that, sometimes surprisingly, support its flourishing. His work complicates the category of "disadvantaged" as a distinct group of "others over there," showing instead continuums of belonging, exclusion, lived vulnerability, and possibility.
