Hong Kong British Parliamentary Debating Championship A debate tournament in British Parliamentary style for Hong Kong secondary school students. Sounds too far away? Do not despair!

Martin Luther King, Winston Churchill, Mahatma Gandhi ...

How many times have the names of these great orators flashed across your mind? Have you ever imagined becoming another inspirational figure of all times, sharing your thoughts to the world and influencing everyone's life? Everything begins with a small step, before sharing your ideas with the whole world, why not start by sharing them with the local community! Join the Hong Kong British Parliamentary Debating Championship ("HKBPDC") and realize your dream! HKBPDC is jointly organized by the Debating Society, HKUSU and the English Debate Team of the University of Hong Kong. It adopts the British Parliamentary style of debating, allowing you to play the role of members of Parliament, including the glorious Prime Minister, and engaged in intensive debates on current affairs. So, what exactly are the Debating Society and the English Debating Team? The Debating Society, HKUSU was established in 1913, bearing the longest history among various student societies in the University of Hong Kong. Throughout its one century of continuous operation, the Society has provided extensive training and support to our members to enhance speech eloquence. This year, we are celebrating our 100th anniversary. Through various activities organized around the year, we continue to offer our members opportunities to further explore their
potentials in public speaking and debating. The HKU English Debate Team is a fast-rising force in debating in the Asian region. Not only do we take part in local tournaments, but also compete internationally, including at the annual World Universities Debating Championships. In the past year, Debate Team members have been to places like Australia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan, Austria and Mainland China, notching up impressive victories over leading foreign universities, posting impressive results, reaching
tournament finals and even winning them. Hesitate no more, grasp the chance and apply for HKBPDC - we cannot wait to witness the rise of another world inspiration! Please follow our page (closely) to keep yourselves updated! For further enquiry, please direct them to [email protected]

With a view to students' safety, we believe it best for the event to be cancelled.

We deeply apologize for all the inconvenience caused to the applicants of HKBPDC 2020. We are aware that some students have already made payment for the registration fee, we assure you that we will contact the students who have made payment already and a complete refund will be arranged for you as soon as possible.

So this marks the end of HKBPDC 2019. Thank you all so much for supporting us, and bearing with us through all the joke motions.

I really like to apologise for all the mistakes that made this tournament a bit messy. Know that next year will be better! .... if there is one? DUN DUN DUN 😱

Thank you all the adjes that took the time to come. Taking time off work or using your day off to help. Much appreciated! Especially the dinosaurs!

An important thank you to the two organising committee members; Sabrina, and Kulsoom. Followed by our great tab master ADARSH/ANDREW. Without them I’m sure we’d be delayed daily and have a more messy tourney.

I hope all of you had fun, even if you didn’t achieve the rank you want, you came out stronger than before! Whatever tourney you may attend, I wish you the best.
