Our gathering became even more special when we engaged in a lively panel discussion on the revival of Baybayin. Joining us was none other than Sabrina Man, who has immersed herself in the study of Baybayin and Philippine culture. We also touched on the pivotal topic of cultural appropriation versus appreciation throughout Philippine history, all within the context of Baybayin's resurgence.
โ€Œ
Our workshop left an indelible mark on both Filipinos and non-Filipinos present as we opened their eyes to the wonders of our rich culture, and the thirst for knowledge was evident through our Baybayin name writing activity.
โ€Œ
Encouraging them to delve deeper into Philippine language and history, we suggested they explore ๐—ฆ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ผ ๐—ฅ๐—ถ๐˜‡๐—ฎ๐—น as a reliable resource.

The evening crescendoed into an Open Mic session, with all of us belting out OPM songs, celebrating the power of Filipino music.
โ€Œ
We would like to thank for hosting us and for the great food and hospitality, and thank you to the Cultural Section of the Philippine Consulate and for supporting us and sharing Buwan ng Wika materials. Thank you to for sharing with us your time and knowledge.

Last but not the least โ€” Thank YOU to all those who showed up and supported this cause!

Project: โ€œI AMโ€ฆโ€

The project sheds light on the lives and stories of Hong Kong Filipinos, taking a nuanced perspective on cultural identity, where the โ€œminoritiesโ€ become the majority in the context of cultural diversity. Participants reclaim their identity beyond the constructs of the โ€œethnic minorityโ€ narrative.

ROAD TO REVIVAL
Congratulations to the cast and crew behind "We Don't Dance For Nothing", a film directed by Stefanos Tai! And kudos to be/longing, an arts-for-education lab, for facilitating this film screening to keep the conversations going on genuine representation in our beloved home city, Hong Kong.

We are deeply humbled to be given the opportunity to reintroduce our association through the premiere of "I AM", and we look forward to more collaborations for the betterment of our society.

Also an afternoon well spent meeting the colourful community of migrant domestic workers who have been contributing a lot to our city. We appreciate you!

About the film
We Don't Dance for Nothing" is a photo-montage love letter to the Filipina Domestic Workers of Hong Kong. This visual recreation of true memories shared by this community of 400,000 women (millions globally) follows one woman's plan to run away. Captured on Super-16, we blend stills with motion to highlight the passionate Street Dancing of these women, and touch upon LGBTQ+ themes and issues of Workers' Rights.

The mission continues

Almost 10 years ago, we founded Section Juan in May 2013, for Filipino youths born or raised in Hong Kong.

After a long hiatus and in compliance with the government's easing of COVID-19 measures, we seized the opportunity to meet up recently to discuss the recalibration of our pioneering association.

It was nice to meet new faces and hear about the different experiences of Pinoy youths' challenges and triumphs.

As we vote to pick our new set of leaders to revive our association, we wish our future leaders all the best and you all, for sure, will continue to play a vital role in Hong Kong more than ever.

Watch this space for updates.

Maraming salamat po sa mga sumuporta, sa patuloy na sumusuporta at naniniwala sa layunin ng aming asosasyon para sa mga kabataan! Mabuhay ang mga kabataang Pinoy dito sa Hong Kong!
