Exploring possibilities. Planning for the future.
This morning, Malvern College Hong Kong welcomed representatives from over 60 universities across the UK, US and Hong Kong for our University Fair, giving our DP students and MYP pupils an invaluable opportunity to explore the many pathways available beyond school.
The morning began with an introduction to studying in the UK by Mr Matthew Lloyd from the University of Manchester, who encouraged pupils to think beyond university rankings and start with three important questions: Why do I want to go to university? What would I like to study? And where would I like to live?
Mr Lloyd encouraged pupils to look closely at course content and structure, work experience and placement opportunities, university life and location, and ultimately to find the university and programme that are the right fit for them. He also shared practical advice on the UK application process, including the importance of predicted grades and maintaining an authentic personal voice when preparing university applications.
The University Fair then gave pupils the opportunity to speak directly with university representatives, learn more about different universities and programmes, understand entry requirements, and ask questions specific to their own interests and aspirations.
The morning concluded with an insightful talk by Mr Pui Hong Chung, Assistant Dean (Health Sciences Programmes & Admissions), LKS Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong, who introduced pupils to the breadth of opportunities within the health sciences — from clinical health and public health to global health — and the diverse career pathways these fields can open.
More than simply choosing a university, today was about helping our pupils ask better questions, explore their interests and make informed choices about the future they want to build.
