大家好，我名叫 Carmelo，我是一個小六學生。我想同大家分享一個親身經歷的神奇小故事。
我從小就好喜歡音樂。在上年年底，我成功考到5級鋼琴。而小提琴方面，因為之前一直只係跟學校管弦樂團練習，所以從來未考過任何級別。本來已經練習了3首考試歌準備考3級試。這時剛巧我爸爸問他的好朋友 Uncle Mike關於鋼琴考試的事而提及我的小提琴進度。Uncle Mike是一個資深的小提琴老師。他覺得我考3級浪費時間，經過一堂面授，他便建議我挑戰5級考試。因為Uncle Mike的音樂教室離我家很遠，所以我們只能靠視像上堂。過了幾堂後，在第二次面授時，Uncle Mike就取出一本7級考試書說要和我一齊越級挑戰。我當時很驚訝，突然要我3個月內練好4首7級歌。我心裏實在很大的疑問! 但經爸爸媽媽鼓勵我，經常跟我說 Uncle Mike是很厲害的，就是這樣，之後3個月差不多每日都視像上堂，間中只有面授一兩堂。最後，在4月25日便上載了考試片段給ABRSM。過了4日，當我睡醒，爸爸媽媽衝過來攬住我：「恭喜你成功考到7級小提琴喇！」。當時我以為自己發緊夢。但我確實是成功了! 我好開心，因為今次對我來說真是一個很大的挑戰。幸好，有爸爸媽媽的鼓勵，和我自己一直堅持努力練習，唔放棄。而我最多謝的，一定是 Uncle Mike。因為他每天都抽時間和我視像上堂，悉心地教導我，才令我成功走到這一步。我都好多謝伴奏老師 Denise, 她每次都好用心幫我伴奏。我好慶幸沒有白費這3個月的努力， 堅持和時間啊!
大家好！我是Carmelo爸爸Cyrus。我同 Mike Chau 已認識了十幾年，一直都知道他是一個小提琴專家。因仔女考5級鋼琴錄影上有問題，所以便打電話問佢意見，順道講起 Carmelo小提琴未有機會考級。當時已經計劃幫他報考3級。當Mike聽完Carmelo拉一段歌之後，就告訴我ABRSM剛公佈今年5月前不用考5級樂理，都可以報考6-8級樂器試。然後同我講可以幫 Carmelo 考到5級。因為我家離他的教室好遠，不方便每天到琴行練習。但 Mike跟我說這個疫情時期可以視像上堂。其實我當時心裏都有疑問，視像學拉琴，得嗎?不過，我深信 Mike在這方面是相當專業和有經驗。所以決定相信他。更想不到，經過一輪視像上堂，第二次面授時，他提議挑戰7級考試。我當時其實都好擔心，不過難得 Mike願意教 Carmelo, 所以便決定全力支持! 他們好勤力上堂，而Carmelo每日都有進步。經過3個月練習，當中有9堂面授，最後Carmelo真的成功考獲7級資格! 我真的喜出望外! 竟然可以完成今次 Mission Impossible! I'm proud of you, my son. 今次一定要多謝 Mike, 他用心用力教導 Carmelo。而視像上堂確實能夠見到成效。我相信 Carmelo跟住 Mike一定可以挑戰更高的級別呢!

Hi, I am Carmelo, a primary 6 student.
I’d like to share with you my journey in music.
I’ve loved music since I was small. At the end of last year, I passed my grade 5 piano exam. Violin was then something new for me, I hadn’t taken any exam, and the only time I ever practiced was in symphony orchestra at school. I was preparing to take the Grade 3 violin exam and was at the final stage of preparations. My dad had a chat with his good friend Uncle Mike about my music learning journey. Uncle Mike is an experienced violin teacher, he at the time thought that taking the Grade 3 exam would be wasting my time. After having our first lesson, he recommended me to take the grade 5 violin exam instead. Uncle Mike’s conservatory is quite far from our home so we could only take lessons online. After a few lessons, it was finally time for face to face lessons. Uncle Mike suggested that I should challenge myself and try the grade 7 exam. I was astonished then, because it means I would have to learn 4 grade 7 pieces within 3 months! My parents were very supportive and assured me that Uncle Mike is brilliant at teaching children like me. In the end, I decided to take the Grade 7 violin exam. We had online lessons every day for 3 months, with only one or two face to face lessons. I finally uploaded my exam video on the 25th of April. After 4 days, my parents rushed over and hugged me and told me that I’ve passed the exam! I thought I was dreaming since it’s been a huge challenge for me. With my parents’ support, I persevered and achieved more than what I expected.
I’m very thankful to Uncle Mike as he took time to teach me every day, taught me with his heart to make all this possible. Also, a big thank you to Denise, my accompanist, she pours her heart and soul into helping students. Finally, I am very happy that I didn’t let 3 months of hard work, time and perseverance go to waste.
Hi, I am Cyrus, Carmelo’s dad.
I’ve personally known Mike Chau for over 10 years, he has always been an expert in violin. I had a chat with him to ask for advice regarding my daughter’s grade 5 piano exam video. Carmelo’s future music plans also slipped into the conversation, my wife and I had already entered the Grade 3 violin exam for him at that time. We then arranged for a consultation lesson between Mike and Carmelo. After listening and careful consideration, Mike suggested to let Carmelo take the grade 5 exam. At that time, ABRSM was exempting candidates from taking the Grade 5 theory exam, he suggested that we should jump at the chance. Our home is very far away from Mike’s Conservatory, so it isn’t convenient to go there and practice every day. However, Mike told us that online lessons could be arranged due to the pandemic. I was skeptical then, ‘Online music lessons, will it really work?’. But I had trust in Mike, in him being the expert in this field. After our second face to face lesson, surprisingly, Mike recommended Carmelo to do the Grade 7 exam instead! I was very worried back then, but it’s very rare where we get a chance like this. Mike and Carmelo both were very hardworking when it comes to lessons. We only had 3 months, 9 face to face lessons, and we succeeded. I am so happy about the result and so happy about my son achieving MISSION IMPOSSIBLE. I’m proud of you, my son.
I would like to say a big thank you, teaching Carmelo with dedication. Online lessons are indeed effective. I believe that Carmelo
can challenge higher grades under Mike's teaching.
Hi everyone, I am Mike Chau. I have always believed the video teaching is a viable remote teaching method, as long as coordinate
with appropriate teaching methods, it can have the same effect as face-to-face teaching. For more than 10 years, I have been
teaching overseas students online during term times, have face-to-face lessons and take exams with them during summer. They
succeed in different grades and exams at the end.
As long as you work hard and study hard, you can always achieve targets you think that are impossible, no matter how far away
from the target you are.
