In the 2025/2026 tenure, AMSAHK has been awarded “Best Chapter Award”, “Best Academic Chapter” and “Best Community Service Award” in Tier 1 by AMSA International. Congratulations!
The “Best Chapter Award” is deemed through the Chapter Performance Assessment System (CPAS), an evaluation tool used to track an AMSA chapter’s involvement and contributions within AMSA International. Ranging from offline conferences and events to online webinars, workshops, masterclasses, and more our CPAS score reflects our outstanding engagement.
The “Best Academic Chapter” award is given by AMSACAD, the academic subsidiary of AMSA International maintaining academic integrity and the “Knowledge” vision of AMSA. AMSA Hong Kong’s contributions included co-hosting the International ResearchNav 2026 with AMSA-Thailand, participating in multiple online workshops, and achieving notable success in international competitions this tenure, securing 3rd place in the East Asian Medical Students’ Conference (EAMSC) and 2nd place in the Asian Medical Students’ Conference (AMSC), both for the Scientific Paper category.
The “Best Community Service Award” recognises our AMSA Community Service (AMSACS) event. This initiative serves to encourage each AMSA chapter to host and frequent community service programmes locally, touching the lives of those in need. Earlier this year in March, AMSA Hong Kong’s very own The Standing Committee on Public Health (SCOPH) hosted their project Ctrl+ Health, a hands-on workshop dedicated to bridging the technology gap for the elderly. By teaching participants how to confidently use digital tools like the eHealth and HA Go apps, our results found that there was a 41.5% average increase in confidence for utilisation of the government health applications. Therefore demonstrating that the project helped seniors take charge of their health with greater ease and independence.
We are immensely proud of what AMSAHK achieved this year. Please join us in sending our best wishes to the next tenure as they continue driving AMSAHK’s successes forward and upholding the values of Knowledge, Action and Friendship in the international stage. Viva AMSA!

Recently, AMSAHK sent 3 delegates to the 2026 Asian Medical Students’ Outreach Programme (AMSOP) held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. AMSOP is a relatively new initiative hosted by AMSA International’s subsidiary - Global Health. This event serves to bring knowledge-driven volunteerism, providing a platform for medical students to translate clinical knowledge and skills into service within real-world community settings. By collaborating with medical students internationally, our delegates engaged with the underserved communities in Malaysia, including the Orang Asli, refugee populations, and orphaned children and fostered skills of empathy and collaboration to address public health issues.
Hear from Aman, our National Director of Public Health about his experience at the community outreach!

With the theme of “Sustainable Medicine for Tomorrow”, AMSAHK successfully hosted MedStart 2026 on 21/3-22/3 in the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of Hong Kong. These 2 days were packed with valuable and immersive experiences that allowed our participants to step into the shoes of a medical student, acquire insights into sustainable medicine and forge connections with like-minded peers.
Day 1 of MedStart had the central aim of giving participants a glimpse of the MBChB experience at CUHK. In the morning, Dr Oscar Wong introduced the MBChB course, Dr Christopher See discussed the sustainability of AI learning in medicine, and Dr Ann Lau demystified the misconceptions regarding gender and s*x. The lecture series was complemented by exciting interactive sessions to actively consolidate learning. During the lunch break, participants enjoyed a taste of CUHK’s canteen meals, followed by a guided tour around the university’s beautiful campus led by our Group Moderators. In the afternoon, participants took part in a variety of intellectually stimulating activities, including an insightful bioethics tutorial, an exciting medical escape room, and a hands-on exploration with real anatomical specimens from silent teachers.
Participants stepped into the role of an HKU MBBS student on Day 2 of MedStart. In the morning, Professor Pauline Yeung introduced the MBBS curriculum, Professor Gordon Wong discussed ways to bridge the gap between adults and teenagers, and Dr Tomasz Cecot delivered a mock lecture on the anatomy of the heart. To provide participants with well-rounded insights, medical students from both HKU and CUHK joined a panel to share their medical school journeys. Following lunch, participants engaged in parallel sessions, featuring rotating modules of immersive disaster medicine workshops, hands-on clinical skills training, and simulated PBL sessions.
The long-awaited announcement of the winners for the inter-group photo competition at the closing ceremony filled the lecture theatre with cheerful smiles and laughter, marking a joyful and memorable conclusion to MedStart 2026.
