🎊RoboMaster rowed the FIRST in New Energy Powerboat Challenge 2023🎊

Our RoboMaster team stood out from 6 other university teams 🌟 and earned a championship honour in the 2023 Pioneer of Zero Carbon GBA New Energy Powerboat Challenge.🚤🚤

The competition consisted of an Endurance challenge and an Obstacle race. Each team controlled a 300kg solar energy-powered boat✅ and raced at highest 15km/h in Songshan Lake of Dongguan Science and Technology Industrial Park. With an all-out effort, HKUST RoboMaster Team demonstrated excellent hands-on ability and knowledge of Powerboat, and finally won the overall championship.🏆

Happy ‘Mooncake’ Festival!

ISD is excited to share with you the latest innovation: a 3-D food printing machine. Our ground-breaking technology enables the machine to heat and shape the food simultaneously. Within 10 minutes, you can get a ready-to-eat mooncakes without additional baking. The process involves AI elements than can recognize complex graphics and transform them into printable messages on food. This printing machine is also capable in adjusting the amounts and ingredients for special dieting needs.

Prof Mitch Li, PhD candidate Connie Lee and the research team are now applying for a technology patent and preparing for industrial release. In the near future, 3-D printing machines could achieve ‘one-stop cooking services’ and further shorten the production time to less than 5 minutes.

[Chinachem – ISD Talk Series: From Zero Carbon Building to Carbon Neutral Hong Kong]

This is about the journey of an architect who participated in the integration of sustainable design in the built environment, including the pioneering project Zero Carbon Building completed in 2012 in Hong Kong, and then served as the Secretary for the Environment, HKSAR, between 2012-22. During his 10-year tenure in the Government, Wong led a number of sustainability policy blueprints on climate actions, energy saving, clean air, popularisation of electric vehicles, waste management, and biodiversity, leading Hong Kong towards carbon neutrality before 2050.

The talk is going to be delivered by Mr. Wong Kam-sing (黃錦星), GBS, JP, Former Secretary for the Environment, HKSAR Government. Prior to his tenure, he contributed to various sustainable architecture projects, including the pioneering high-density public housing estate Verbena Heights and the Zero Carbon Building, the first of its kind in Hong Kong. He also volunteered in the sustainable bridge design and construction project in Gansu Province and has been the Chairman of Wu Zhi Qiao Charitable Foundation since October 2022. Wong has also held several leadership positions in professional organizations, including the Environment and Sustainable Development Committee of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, the Professional Green Building Council, and the Hong Kong Green Building Council. He has contributed to the promotion and research of standards and guidelines for sustainable built environments, including HKGBC's BEAM Plus and Buildings Department's Sustainable Building Design Guidelines and Guidelines on Design & Construction Requirements for Energy Efficiency of Residential Buildings.

[Chinachem - ISD Talk Series: Treehouse architecture - Childhood Imaginaries to Incumbent Eco-Realities. The Future of Work is Changing - Are you ready?]

Net-zero vertical cities are the pathway to our sustainable future.

“Treehouse” is a future-ready workplace concept designed for the climate generation and it is the winning design in the “Future Building” category of the Advancing Net Zero (ANZ) Ideas Competition organised by the Hong Kong Green Building Council. The transdisciplinary design process of Treehouse was led by Behave in collaboration with Ronald Lu & Partners (RLP).

A wide spectrum of ANZ strategies has been reviewed for their potential positive environmental, social, and economic impacts versus cost, technical, regulatory, and cultural challenges. An adaptive approach is conceived for Treehouse to reduce and offset its whole life carbon.

The talk is going to be delivered by two senior members from Ronald Lu & Partners, Mr. Anthony CHEUNG, Director / Vice President (Design) for Mainland China / Head of Studio, and Mr. MK LEUNG, Director of Sustainable Design / Principal Behaviourist, Behave.
