【理大走入社區 守護長者眼睛健康 👁️✨】

理大眼科視光學院攜手房屋局及房屋署，於8月10日在紅磡邨成功舉辦「區區有好視」視力篩查服務啟動禮！

視力健康對長者生活質素至關重要。是次服務計劃目標為 900名 60歲或以上的基層長者 提供便捷的視力篩查，發揮「及早發現、及早分流、及早治療」的作用，協助識別早期眼疾風險。

推動基層社區眼睛健康的重大意義：

• 基層預防與及早干預： 白內障、青光眼及黃斑病變等常見眼疾病發初期往往無明顯症狀。透過進駐社區的視力篩查，協助長者在視力受損前及早發現潛在危機。

• 建立社區分流機制： 完善的篩查服務能發揮門檻作用，精準地將有需要的長者分流至地區康健中心、社區眼科視光師或專科醫生，從而有效減輕公營醫療系統的負荷。

• 提升社區健康意識與生活質素： 推廣社區眼睛健康教育能增強基層長者對眼疾預防的關注，改善日常視力及預防跌倒，顯著提升長者的生活質素與獨立生活能力。

房屋局局長何永賢女士JP、房屋署署長李佩詩女士JP、房屋署副署長（屋邨管理）康榮傑先生JP、理大副校長（行政及拓展）張亮教授、醫療及社會科學院院長岑浩强教授、眼科視光學院學院主任紀家樹教授、以及鄭柏文醫生等嘉賓親臨支持，現場了解篩查流程並與長者親切交流。

【PolyU Brings Vision Screening to the Community👁️✨】

The School of Optometry of PolyU, with the support of the Housing Bureau and Housing Department, hosted the "Community Integrated Reach and Care Link for Eye-health (CIRCLE)" Vision Screening Service at Hung Hom Estate on 10 August!

Good vision is essential for the quality of life of our seniors. This initiative aims to provide accessible vision screening for 900 elderly residents aged 60 or above, supporting early detection, triage, and timely intervention for common age-related eye conditions.

Why Primary Eye Care in the Community Matters:

• Early Detection & Prevention: Age-related conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration often develop silently. Accessible community screenings help detect early signs before irreversible vision loss occurs.

• Effective Triage & Relieving Healthcare Burden: Establishing a clear community-based triage mechanism ensures timely referrals to District Health Centres, primary care optometrists, or specialists, thereby easing the pressure on the public healthcare system.

• Empowering Seniors’ Quality of Life: Promoting community eye care education and vision protection directly enhances daily mobility, reduces fall risks, and boosts independence, ultimately raising the overall health literacy and well-being of seniors in public housing estates.

【Understanding Amblyopia (Lazy Eye): 3 Key Causes】👁️✨

If glasses don't bring vision back to normal levels, it could be Amblyopia (Lazy Eye). It affects roughly 2–4% of children in Hong Kong.

Main Causes:
🔹 Refractive Errors (High prescription or uneven vision between eyes)
🔹 Strabismus (Brain suppresses signals from the misaligned eye)
🔹 Congenital Issues (e.g., Congenital cataracts)

⚠️ Beyond Blurry Vision: Amblyopia impairs depth perception, leading to frequent trips, falls, or poor hand-eye coordination.

【Little Optometrist 2026 Successfully Held! 🎊】

Organised by , “Little Optometrist 2026 👩‍⚕️” was successfully held earlier, attracting nearly 80 students and parents. On the event day, children put on white coats and transformed into “little optometrists”. Under professional guidance, they had the opportunity to try using various eye examination tools, perform simple eye checks for their parents, take part in a stereopsis craft activity, and visit the Optometry Clinic to learn more about the daily work of optometrists. Let’s relive the wonderful moments through these photos! 📸
