School of Optometry, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Optometry offers the only Honours Undergraduate Programme in Optometry leading to the Professional Qualification as an Optometrist in Hong Kong.

The School of Optometry (SO) 眼科視光學院 is a part of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Established in 1978, the School runs Hong Kong's only degree programme in Optometry for professional qualification as optometrists. Our mission is to undertake cutting edge research, and the teaching of the highest academic standard in optometry, and to contribute to promotion and delivery of high quality vision care in Hong Kong. The School is currently offering a BSc (Hons) in Optometry, MSc in Optometry and Doctor of Health Science (Optometry) (DHSc).

Suffer from dry, tired, or irritated eyes? 👀✨
We are recruiting participants for a research study on the Efficacy of Lycium Barbarum Polysaccharide (LBP) in Dry Eye Disease Management!

Eligible participants will receive a 3-month supply of an oral LBP nutritional supplement (a formula safely marketed in Hong Kong for years) and free dry eye evaluations.

📌 Study Details
• Regimen: Take an LBP supplement daily for 3 months
• Follow-up Visits: 3 clinic visits in total (~1.5 hours per visit) for dry eye evaluations, questionnaire completion, and supplement compliance assessment
• Location: Optometry Clinic (A137), The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hung Hom

🎯 Who Can Join
• Individuals aged 18–60 with normal vision
• Suffering from dry eye disease

❌ Who CANNOT Join
• Had an eye infection within the past 3 months
• Used dry eye treatment products or wore contact lenses within the past 1 month
• Have undergone eye surgery or suffer from other eye diseases
• Currently suffering from infectious diseases or having severe/unstable systemic diseases
• Allergic to Lycium Barbarum Polysaccharide (LBP), blueberries, or grape seeds

【滴眼藥水滴到「上癮」？其實可能一直都滴錯了 😳】
你是不是也試過：眼睛一乾就滴眼藥水，滴完舒服一陣，然後又乾、又滴……不斷循環？
其實，乾眼症有10種以上不同類型，一般人工淚液最多只能紓緩當中5種。用錯人工淚液，不但無法針對乾眼的根本成因，還可能讓乾眼問題越滴越嚴重！😣
💁‍♀️ 除了人工淚液，這3個居家護理習慣，你今天就可以開始：
1️⃣ 熱敷眼罩 ♨️ —— 每日1-2次，每次15分鐘，乾眼症專用的熱敷眼罩，能維持最有效軟化瞼板腺油脂的40-42°C，促進油脂分泌。

【Hooked on Eye Drops? You May Be Using the Wrong Ones 😳】
Do you find yourself reaching for eye drops whenever your eyes feel dry? The relief may last for a while—but then the dryness creeps back, and the cycle repeats.
Here is the truth: Dry Eye Disease actually has more than 10 different types and subtypes. While over-the-counter artificial tears can mask your symptoms for a short time, they don't treat the root cause. In fact, using an unsuitable formula could mean your condition isn't being effectively managed at all! 😣
💁‍♀️ Beyond artificial tears, here are three at-home eye care habits you can start today to find lasting relief:
1️⃣ Warm Eye Mask ♨️
Use a dry-eye-specific warm eye mask once or twice a day for around 15 minutes. Maintaining a temperature of 40–42°C may help soften the oils in the meibomian glands and promote their secretion.
2️⃣ Eyelid Hygiene 💦
Gently clean along the lash line once or twice daily with dedicated eyelid-cleaning wipes to help maintain good eyelid hygiene.
3️⃣ Omega-3 Intake 🍴
Include more Omega-3-rich foods in your diet, such as salmon and nuts. Fish oil, flaxseed oil, or dry-eye supplements may also be considered where appropriate.
