Doctor of Excellence (DOE) was founded in 2005 by a group of doctors from the University of Hong Kong (HKU) who are eager in guiding medical students through their medical school life and professional career. By participating in mentoring groups, workshops, theme talks, services and exploration camps, medical students and doctors join hands to explore scientific and humanistic issues of medicine through establishing a mentoring relationship. The Mentoring Programme has since benefitted Year 1 and Year 3 students at HKU each year that just entered their pre-clinical and clinical years respectively. In 2013, we have extended the programme to medical students from the Chinese University of Hong Kong as well. Through launching the Mentoring Programme, DOE aims to:
- Facilitate medical students’ cognitive exploration through humanistic issues in the medical field
- Provide medical students with early exposure to the challenges in nowadays doctoring via interaction with practicing doctors
- Foster a holistic personal growth of medical students through mentoring
