近日在香港的一個重要功課 - 如何在教育與保護孩子之間取得平衡。
An important topic in Hong Kong these days.

有鑑於道路情況不明，我校今天休學一天，亦建議同學留在家中。孩子可能會奇怪今天為什麼不用上學，以下為老師們給家長的一些應對建議。

1.「今天大家都有點疲倦，需要休息。」（孩子能感受到城市繃緊的氣氛，在情感上也會感到疲累）
2.「到處都有塞車。」
3.「地鐵需要進行很多工程。」
4.「我很喜歡和你待在家，享受特別的一天！」
5.「我們一起做早/午/晚餐吧。」（如果可以的話，與孩子一起做飯是絕佳的親子活動）

當日常生活節奏被打斷，孩子就會感到不同程度的疑惑和不安。因此，當我們與孩子溝通的時候，成人需要找一個方式，在說真話的同時、避免令孩子要處理太複雜或嚇人的畫面和資訊。香港現時情況複雜，作為孩子的守護者，我們必須在教育孩子理解世界和保護孩子的身心健康之間取得平衡。

Our classes are suspended today due to uncertain road conditions. Children are advised to stay home. Here are some suggestions we are giving to parents of young children, who may wonder why we don’t have school.

1. "It’s a good day for a rest, everyone was quite tired."
(Children can feel the sense of uncertainty in the air, and that made the mood emotionally tiring.)
2. "The roads are busy."
3. "There is a lot of work being done on the MTR."
4. "It’s good to have an extra day to be home together!"
5. "Let’s make breakfast together." (Cooking with children is highly recommended, if someone is available.)

When daily routines are interrupted, children often feel different levels of confusion and insecurity. Therefore it is important for adults to find ways of speaking to the children, where we can tell them things in a way that they can receive an answer without lies and without involving the children in the complicated picture of Hong Kong's recent events. As adults, we need to shield them from certain images and knowledge. Balancing exposure and protection is an important task of all adult caregivers, and that is especially true in Hong Kong these days.

Self-initiated creative play is serious work for children!

// STEM education is not a complicated thing, children are already doing it when we leave them alone to pursue their own interests in a lovely, varied, and stimulating environment. We can, however, destroy their love of science, technology, engineering and math by turning it into the sort of rote learning that involves authoritarian adults dictating what, how, and by when particular knowledge is to be acquired or skills learned. A good STEM education, at least in the early years, is a play-based one; one that takes advantage of a child's natural curiosity; that gives free rein to their boundless capacity for inventiveness; and that understands that vocational training is but a small part of what an education should be about.

.. When we allow children to explore their world through play, we see that they are already scientists, technologist, engineers, and mathematicians. We don't create them, but rather allow the time and space in which those natural drives can flourish, and that's how we ultimately insure that our children not only have the narrow skills that may or may not be necessary for those jobs of tomorrow, but also for the broader purpose of living a good life. //

Playing Their Way To A State-Of-The-Art STEM Education ( Note: I hate that I need to write this post, just as I hated writing my post about how children learn to read throug...

#優律司美 是一種像舞蹈的藝術形式，由華德福教育的創辦人魯道夫．施泰納所提出，已發展出三種發展領域，分別是 #舞台表演、 #教學（為本校科目之一）、以及 #治療用途。

Philip Beaven老師為本校三年級主帶老師，有40年優律司美教師、表演者的經驗，曾創立兩個劇團在歐美各地巡迴演出。他現舉行9節優律司美課程，從2019年10月15日開始，逢週二晚上6-7時在本校舉行。活動語言為英語。

is a dance-like art form created by Rudolf Steiner, the founder of Waldorf education. There are three main aspects to eurythmy now: the artistic, the pedagogical (as a subject at Waldorf schools), and the therapeutic.

Philip Beaven is the class teacher of grade 3 at our school. He has over 40 years of experience as a teacher and performer of eurythmy. He is now offering a 9-session course at 6 to 7 pm on Tuesdays, which will start on Oct 15 (Tue). These lessons will be conducted in English.
