HKPDS Workshop & Tournament

What kind of students would spend the first week of summer attending lectures and giving 7-minute speeches all day long? Debaters, that’s right, we’re a special kind of Queenians.

It has been a tough but fruitful experience where we debated, made more new friends and debated against tournament as we became slightly better each time.

Eleven debaters from our team, including Artie Lam, Enoch Lau, Eden Lau, Ryan Ng, CK Chiu, Gordon Chan, Panold Tung, Vincent Chen, Mervyn Tang, Chris Guan and Justyn Mak were assigned to different classes for training. Aside from the workshop, debaters have also taken part in an intense 2-day tournament.

Massive congratulations to Enoch Lau for breaking into the octo-finals in his very first BP tournament and to Artie Lam (9th best speaker) for reaching the semis. Although most of our teams didn’t break, it was truly an exceptionally challenging experience. We hope to see debaters reaching further in future tournaments!

See you!

Over the last three days of the Chinese New Year Break, our debaters decided red pockets and assignments are not enough. Instead, debating makes them slightly more contented.

8 of our debaters ranging from Form 1 to Form 4 debated in the Hong Kong British Parliamentary Debate Championship 2017. We congratulate Pessimist Entertainers (Eden Lau and Artie Lam) for making it to the Semi Finals and our captain, Artie Lam for ranking 14th in the Speaker Tab.

Massive congratulations to all our debaters for having this precious experience in the tournament and we look forward to their future performances!

"Falling up", a team including Joshua Yeung, Timothy Lo and Artie Lam won the champion in the Durham University Hong Kong Public Affairs and Social Service Society English Debate Tournament held at the HKU two weeks ago (30-31/7). The tournament was in World Schools Style, and Joshua and Timothy were both the Top 10 best speakers after 5 preliminary rounds. Artie was also awarded as the best speaker in the Grand Final. They have engaged and humbly learnt from many talented speakers from high school and university teams, and this summer tournament proved to be a refreshing experience. Congratulations to our debaters!

Yesterday we had our o-day and we were very happy to have some passionate students joining us. They had their first taste of debating with the motion 'THBT school uniforms does more harm than good'.
It doesn't matter if you missed the o-day, feel free to fill in the forms on the notice boards of your classrooms if you are interested. Remember, we don't need you to be very good at English, all we want is your passion towards debating. So make sure that you fill in the form before the deadline on 13th October!

"Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, TH, as a feminist,..."

Yesterday afternoon, seniors from QC and QES had their friendly match with intense interactions and demonstrated the impressive art of argumentation, with rounds of applause concluded the debate. With a very narrow win, we are delighted to announce the result:

Motion: TH, as a feminist, would oppose products marketed to help women prevent date r**e.

Winning side: Opposition (Queen's College)

Best speaker: Ernest Sin (5B)

May we again express our sincere gratitude towards debaters and teachers from QES. Last but not least, we are looking forward to another debate with them.
