We were delighted to host Jenny Gillett, Senior Expert (Education Innovation) at the International Baccalaureate, on 11 September for a day of high-level academic exchange focused on curriculum innovation, assessment, and the future of global education.

Throughout the visit, our school leadership, department heads, and faculty engaged in deep-dive discussions on the Systems Transformation Pathway (STP). The team explored insights from pioneer schools on the curriculum implementation timeline, alongside broader IB developments such as digital exams and new course offerings like Data Science. The dialogue also covered how university advising can help ensure higher education institutions globally understand and recognise STP competencies.

It was an inspiring day of academic insights as we continue collaborating to equip students with the skills needed to tackle complex, systemic challenges in today’s world.

Full House at LPCUWC Info Day🎉

What a vibrant Sunday we had at our Wu Kai Sha campus! Yesterday (13 September), we welcomed over 300 prospective students, parents, and guests to our Info Day to experience the unique spirit of LPCUWC.

🏫 Visitors started the afternoon with student-led campus tours in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese, offering an authentic, close-up look at residential life on campus. Following a welcome address by Principal Dr Spencer Fowler, the audience enjoyed live performances by the Cultural Evening groups and LPC Band 🎶, showcasing the creative and cultural diversity of our student community.

Apart from hearing from our current students first-hand, visitors had the opportunity to interact with alumni from around the world 🌐, including UWC Changshu, ISAK Japan, Robert Bosch, and Mahindra at the UWC Alumni Fair.
Alumna Christie (Class of 2019) also shared on stage how her UWC experience profoundly shaped her path 💡. The programme concluded with an informative admissions session led by Admissions Director Balica Ng and Selection Panel Chair Kenneth She (Class of 2006).

The day would not have been possible without the collective effort of our entire community. ❤️ A heartfelt thank you to our 160 student volunteers who served as tour guides, registration hosts, and performers, as well as our returning alumni and the teams at the Hong Kong Committee and Graduates Organisation (Hong Kong).

Missed out this time? Follow our page to stay updated on the next Info Day!

Action for Peace, Planet, People in motion! 🌊

Now in its second year at LPCUWC—one of only two UWC colleges worldwide offering the IBDP Marine Science course—our students continue to live out the UWC mission through authentic conservation work. 💙

Our IBDP Year 2 Marine Science students recently took part in Youth Ambassadors for Ocean Stewardship, a Marine Biodiversity Programme hosted by The Swire Institute of Marine Science (SWIMS) of The University of Hong Kong.

Across four inspiring days, students explored Hong Kong’s remarkable marine biodiversity while deepening their understanding of the ecological pressures facing local coastal and marine habitats. The programme provided a valuable opportunity to connect classroom learning with authentic scientific investigation, fieldwork, and conservation action.

At an Autonomous Reef Monitoring Structures (ARMS) workshop at Cape D’Aguilar—Hong Kong's only Marine Reserve—students investigated methods for sampling marine biodiversity and gained hands-on experience extracting environmental DNA (eDNA) for conservation monitoring. 🔬

The group then travelled by boat to Bluff Island and Sharp Island to snorkel among Hong Kong’s coral communities. 🪸 Observing local reef ecosystems firsthand was a powerful reminder of both their richness and vulnerability. Students also explored corals restored using Archireef technology—an especially meaningful experience for those involved in our Coral Monitoring service, who will restore corals at two Hong Kong locations later this term.

Guided by the expertise and enthusiasm of Dr Phil and his colleagues, students gained a deeper appreciation of Hong Kong’s marine biodiversity and the importance of active restoration and long-term monitoring.

The programme concluded at Tai Tam Wan, where students explored intertidal ecology and conducted scientific transects through mangroves to estimate stored "blue carbon." 🌿 Digging into the sediment revealed hidden infauna like pistol shrimp, clams, and bloodworms—bringing mangrove ecology vividly to life.

For our Year 2 Marine Science students, the programme was an invaluable extension of their learning. We are sincerely grateful to SWIMS-HKU and the Environment and Conservation Fund for making this enriching programme possible.

Shine Bright as a Young Researcher 🎉

Huge congratulations to Year 2 student Noura for her outstanding presentation at the PolyU Junior Researcher Mentoring Programme (JRMP) 2026 closing ceremony!

Out of 210 students across 79 schools and 35 projects, Noura’s team was one of only two selected to present at the finale. 🏆

Together with teammates from Yew Chung International School, ESF Island School, and ESF West Island School, Noura developed an AI-powered robotic scribe that tracks movements in the air via camera and physically recreates drawings/writing on paper in real-time. 📝🤖

💡 Noura’s takeaway for fellow LPCers:
"Research is not about already knowing the answer, but about experimenting, failing, troubleshooting, and improving your idea… Being young does not mean you cannot work on something meaningful."

Inspiring work, Noura! 👏
