We have some exciting news! We’ve just launched the Blooms and Buds YouTube channel: a tiny, cheerful hub of child‑friendly resources tied to our upcoming children’s book, Junie’s Whirlwind of Wonder.

We have only just started creating content for the channel, so resources are limited for now. Still, we are excited to continue growing it with short calming activities, possible read‑aloud snippets, and practical tips for parents, teachers, and therapists.

Comments are automatically turned off on YouTube to keep the channel child‑friendly. But we’d still love to hear your thoughts and what other resources would be most helpful. Feel free to leave a comment or PM us. Thanks for the support!

🌟 Looking to Hire! 🌟

We are excited to share that we’ve written a new children's book celebrating the beauty of a neurodivergent mind and the important role a pause plays in understanding others. We want to authentically represent this story, and so we are seeking an illustrator with ADHD who can bring this vision to life.

For attention, we’ve included an AI-generated book cover created on Ideogram in our preferred whimsical watercolour style. If you or someone you know has the passion and perspective to illustrate this journey, we’d love to connect!

🌿Consultancy Project for Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden🌿

It’s all coming together! Tomorrow marks the exciting launch of our consultancy project for Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden’s first Wonders in Nature Playgroup for 2 to 3-year-olds and their parents! Despite the overcast day, it was all sunshine and smiles as we setup our learning environment.

As we prepare for our first cohort, we want to highlight how this project brings together the collective knowledge of experts from various departments - Education, Fauna, Flora, and Regenerative Agriculture - creating a rich and one-of-a-kind learning experience. A special thank you to the Facilities Team for ensuring that our space is safe and child-friendly. Here’s a sneak peek of the beautiful space!

How exciting to be celebrating the first-ever International Day of Play with my children, as it marks a significant step in the ongoing work to make sure play is valued for its multitude of benefits.

“The international day creates a unifying moment at global, national, and local levels to elevate the importance of play. It signals a call for policies, training, and funding to get play integrated into education and community settings worldwide.”

Let us unite in promoting and prioritising play!

Babies are the best communicators and duet partners! I was sifting through old home videos and was so excited as a parent, educator, and advocate for children to come across this one! In it, you will see me jamming with my three month old baby. There is this responsive back and forth interaction going on with the singing, pauses, coos and gurgles. The eye contact and the smiles.

Too often, we underestimate what young children can do, but the truth is that they are complex little beings who let us know what they think and feel way before they develop the words to do so. These interactions are so important for a baby's development, and helps to build their language skills and social-emotional abilities. Plus, who doesn’t want to hangout with babies? What conversations have you had with a baby lately? I’d love to hear what they had to “say.”

Typhoon day presents a wonderful opportunity to immerse oneself in the world of loose parts play! During such play, autonomy becomes particularly important as it allows children to express their individuality and cultivate a play style that aligns with their interests and preferences.

Take Braxley, for example, who used his imagination, creative thinking, and problem-solving skills to construct and engage with his "casting net fishing rod." By granting children the freedom to explore and manipulate materials in their own unique ways, we empower them to take an active role in their play, fostering engagement and self-directed learning.

If you’re in the Tin Hau area today, please stop by to say “Hello” at the Back to School Open Day and Bazaar at Fairchild Junior Academy. We will be selling our children’s book ‘The Magical Box’ and loose parts kits as part of our continued journey to share with parents the vast potential of loose parts play!
