If you’re interested in reading about how international students adjust to life in Hong Kong, check out a new student voices blog post from Year 4 Morningsider Myles Ng!
In his words, “reflecting on the four years of my university life, I recalled the struggles I went through in my internship and job hunt, how I overcame them, and the lessons I gained along the way. So, to whoever is reading this, I’d like to share with you three tips that will undoubtedly help you navigate your career search.”
Here’s one tip from Myles — “Planning, in as much detail as you can, goes a long way towards helping you find your career footing. However, it’s also important to note that plans don’t always play out the way you hope they might. Failure and rejection are necessary – and in fact, helpful – things, and having career plans won’t change that. Ultimately, the purpose of planning your career search is not to ascertain your future, but to encourage you to just try.”

Student Spotlight⭐️
Congratulations to Morningside students Choi Ching Lam and Yu Kejing for each being awarded the Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarship for their academic achievements and commitment to community service!
Choi is a year 3 student studying Artificial Intelligence (AI): Systems and Technologies. In her words, “being recognised as a leader and scholar by HKJC is an immense honour that I must dedicate to my mentors at CUHK engineering and Morningside College. In particular, Professor Hongsheng Li took me under his wing in 2019 to read, discuss and research Computer Vision at the Multimedia Laboratory. Amidst the pandemic, I created Corona-Net, an open-source, free-access COVID-19 diagnosis, severity evaluation and pneumonia symptom tracking platform; MAESTRO.ai TaiChi tutor, an app that strives to connect generations via AI-gamified online TaiChi exercise. Academically, I research robustness and explainability in Machine Learning systems and preprints striving to make AI more reliable and invulnerable. These initiatives are made possible by the time and effort of my mentors, who are always just one message away. Moving forward, I am motivated to pursue a path of research and teaching in academia, to share, explore and pay it forward.”
Yu is a year 3 student studying mathematics. Her passion for the environment “started in 2013, when my friends and I found that an endangered duck called Chinese merganser started to come to our hometown. However, villagers didn’t pay enough attention and some even killed them for food. Knowing the urgency of this problem, we sent brochures, delivered public speeches and wrote letters to the mayor. A year later, villagers stopped polluting the river, began to protect the ducks, and a natural reserve was set up. This experience made me realize that even small efforts could make a big difference. I have since continued my efforts towards environment protection and endangered species preservation.”
