【綠色小知識】從APEC林業會議,看香港的超級「藍碳」寶庫!🌊🌳
最近環境及生態局局長謝展寰前往深圳出席 APEC 林業部長級會議,其中一個焦點議題就是「紅樹林及其他生態系統的保育和恢復」!
你知道嗎?香港的米埔內后海灣紅樹林,面積已經擴大至超過 400 公頃!每年為黑臉琵鷺等逾 5 萬隻越冬遷徙水鳥,提供超讚的「補給站」與棲息地!🕊️
既然提到樹木保育,今天小編就帶大家拆解這座海岸防線的神奇之處:
❓ 紅樹林是什麼?明明是綠色的,為什麼叫「紅」樹?
紅樹林(Mangroves)生長於潮間帶及鹹淡水交界,是少數能適應高鹽分與缺氧泥地的植物群落。
名稱由來:樹葉雖然是綠色的,但樹皮含有豐富「單寧酸」,剝開氧化後會呈紅褐色,早期常被用作提取紅色染料!
生存絕技:演化出向外延伸的「支持根」與向上透氣的「呼吸根」,更有特殊的「胎生苗」現象,讓幼苗在樹上發芽長成筆狀才掉落泥地生根!
海岸最強防線:盤根錯節的根系能防風消浪、保護海岸免受侵蝕,更是海洋碳匯(藍碳)的超級儲存庫!
❓ 一棵樹除了吸收 CO₂,還有什麼隱藏神技?
樹木不僅是地球的「吸碳引擎」,更是維繫生態平衡的超級全能員:

Every year, this thriving ecosystem serves as a vital refueling stop and wintering sanctuary for over 50,000 migratory waterbirds, including the endangered Black-faced Spoonbill! 🕊️
Since forest and wetland conservation are in the spotlight, let’s explore the incredible science behind these coastal guardians:
❓ What are mangroves? Why are they called "red" trees in Chinese (紅樹林) if they are green?
Mangroves grow along tropical and subtropical intertidal coasts and estuaries—a rare plant community adapted to high-salinity and oxygen-depleted mudflats.
The Name's Origin: While their leaves are lush green, the bark of many mangrove species contains high levels of tannin. When cut or exposed to air, tannin oxidizes into a reddish-brown color, which was historically extracted to make red dyes!
Survival Superpowers: They have evolved specialized "prop roots" for support and "pneumatophores" (breathing roots) that stick up above the mud to absorb air. Some species even feature "vivipary," where seeds germinate directly on the tree into pencil-shaped propagules before falling into the mud to take root!
Ultimate Coastal Defense: Their dense, tangled root systems dissipate wave energy, preventing coastal erosion, while acting as a massive carbon sink for "Blue Carbon" (marine carbon storage)!
❓ What else does a tree do besides absorbing CO₂?
Trees are much more than carbon sinks—they are multi-functional powerhouses for ecological balance:
1️⃣ Natural Air Purifying Filters: The tiny hairs and sticky coatings on leaves trap airborne particulate matter (PM2.5) and absorb pollutants like sulfur dioxide.
2️⃣ Urban Air Conditioners: Through transpiration, trees release moisture into the air, absorbing surrounding heat and effectively mitigating the urban "heat island effect."
3️⃣ Soil & Water Retaining Sponges: Dense canopies soften the impact of heavy rain on bare ground, while deep root networks anchor the soil against landslides and recharge groundwater to reduce urban flooding risks.
4️⃣ Micro-Ecological Sanctuaries: From the canopy to the roots, a single tree provides food, shelter, and habitats for countless insects, birds, and fungi.
