[Final Call: Register by September 17 for UES 2026]

Registration for the APRU University Executives' Summit 2026 closes on September 17.

Hosted by Tohoku University on October 28-30, the Summit will bring together senior university leaders and researchers from across the APRU network under the theme, "International Research Collaboration for a Bright Future: Unite to Ignite." Discussions will focus on resilience and global risk governance, research infrastructure, and data-driven approaches to wellness and planetary health.

Participation is by invitation only. Invited delegates are encouraged to complete their registration and join colleagues from across the APRU network in Sendai for three days of discussion and exchange.

Join the final session of Financial Health CANversations, a learning series that examines how data and AI can help build more inclusive, resilient financial systems. The series is organized as part of the 2026 Data, AI & Policy APAC Hackathon: Financial Health Frontiers.

This series is convened by data.org's Asia Pacific Data and AI Capacity Accelerator (Global Capacity Accelerator Network – CAN) with support from Cognizant, in partnership with APRU, NUS FinTech Lab, the Asian Institute of Management, and Nasscom.

The program offers students the opportunity to take academic courses, experience Korean culture, explore Seoul, and connect with peers from around the world.

📅 Program Dates: December 22, 2026 – January 8, 2027

Highlights include:
- More than 30 courses across six academic fields
- Cultural activities, including Taekwondo, a Korean cooking class, and a DMZ tour
- A winter study experience in Seoul

Webinar Recap: From Local Mandates to Global Networks — Research Data Infrastructure, Services, and Strategies Across Pacific Rim Libraries

The Pacific Rim Research Libraries Alliance (PRRLA) recently co-hosted a webinar with the University of Victoria and the Digital Research Alliance of Canada, bringing together library and research data leaders from across the Pacific Rim to explore how institutions are building sustainable research data infrastructure.

From DRAC's National Data Spaces pilot to the real challenges of RDM infrastructure sustainability, and The Chinese University of Hong Kong's approach to promoting creative reuse of open data, the session offered valuable perspectives on building resilient, collaborative research data ecosystems.

[Reliving the moments from the APRU Undergraduate Leaders' Program (ULP) 2026!]

Over ten intensive days in Shenzhen, students took parts in lectures, workshops, company visits, cultural activities, and team projects centered on leadership, AI and robotics. Hosted by the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) School of Design, the program encouraged participants to learn from experts, engage with new ideas, and connect with peers from across the region.

Watch the Highlights: APEC Shenzhen, Advancing with AI — 2026 International Youth Event

The "APEC Shenzhen, Advancing with AI" 2026 International Youth Event, co-hosted by Southern University of Science and Technology under the guidance of Guangdong and Shenzhen authorities, was a flagship youth initiative supporting China's APEC host year.

Held on June 29–30, 2026 in Shenzhen, the event brought together over 300 participants from more than 20 APEC economies and Belt and Road countries — including scholars, students, and delegates from international organizations, governments, and corporations — to foster future-oriented dialogue and collaboration through technology.

Students from the APRU Undergraduate Leaders' Program (ULP) 2026 also participated in the event. The program opened with welcome remarks from APRU Chief Executive Thomas Schneider, setting the tone for discussions throughout the two-day gathering.

[APRU Indigenous Knowledges Workshop 2026 Unveils Network Statement to Advance Indigenous Knowledges in Higher Education]

Hosted by the University of the Philippines (UP) in Boracay, the APRU Indigenous Knowledges Workshop 2026 brought together university presidents and leaders, scholars, Indigenous community representatives, and practitioners from across the Asia-Pacific for discussions on Indigenous knowledges, community partnerships, leadersips and Indigenous data sovereignty.

The workshop also marked the launch of the APRU Indigenous and First Nations Knowledges Network Statement, a collective commitment to supporting Indigenous peoples and knowledge systems in higher education.

Looking back on the 11th APRU Multi-Hazards Summer School in Sendai

On July 29–August 1, IRIDeS, Tohoku University welcomed graduate students and early-career researchers from across the Asia-Pacific for the 11th APRU Multi-Hazards Summer School, themed "From Science to Society: Advancing Disaster Risk Reduction for a Resilient Future."

Over four days, participants engaged with lessons from the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami, stakeholder case studies, group activities, sessions on applying AI to disaster risk reduction, and a field trip to areas affected by the 2011 disaster — deepening their understanding of the science-policy-society interface in disaster risk reduction.
