Happy Songkran 2016

It’s that crazy time of year again in which the New Year is celebrated, here in Thailand, in a spectacular 3-day long water fight. Everywhere you go, the streets are lined with buckets of water and people armed with water-pistols ready to soak people who pass by. With the mercury reaching above 40 degrees Celsius, being soaked to the bone is actually a welcome relief from the current heatwave.

Thai people traditionally celebrate Songkran with their families, so Bangkok has emptied out, as many people go back to their homes in the provinces. This means that those left behind have almost free reign over most streets and communities are all organizing their own little street parties and often welcome strangers to join them. It’s a great festive mood and we are glad that many of trainees are experiencing it for the first time.

We would like to wish you all a Happy Songkran from all the staff at The Asian TEFL Institute’s Thailand offices.
