Unveiling the Story Behind Wan Chai: Immersive Tour and Academic Dialogue

The Wellness and Enrichment Team at the Faculty of Humanities, The Education University of Hong Kong, in partnership with the Wu Jieh Yee School of Arts and Social Sciences, The Hong Kong Metropolitan University, is organising an “Immersive Tour in Wan Chai” for students.

Tracing Wan Chai’s history, participants will learn about Hong Kong’s cultural heritage conservation and urban development.

After the field experience, students from both universities will join an exchange session to discuss the challenges and future of heritage conservation, broadening their academic perspectives.

Interested students 👉 Please register via the link and provide a brief self-introduction so that we can learn more about your background and expectations.

Successful applicants will receive a confirmation email.

🎓 The Digital Playhouse's themed learning module — ‘Visual Dream Studio’
Combining AI-generated content technology with humanities creativity, this platform lowers the barriers to visual creation.
Even without a design background, you can transform abstract concepts into concrete images. ✨

Dr Sunnie He (The Resource Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies and Experiential Learning), the project lead, explains that the team has specially developed an original four-part prompt framework that guides learners to turn inspiration into precise instructions:

⏳ Time: Set the temporal period and historical context
🧑 People: Conceptualise characters and actions
🏞️ Setting: Depict scenes and atmosphere
🖌️ Technique: Select artistic style and expression methods

Through continuous prompt refinement and dialogue with AI, learners gradually transform imagination into imagery, evolving from tool users into true creators who master the creative direction. 🤖💬

Through workshop practice and peer exchange, individual creative experiences can be transformed into collectively accumulated wisdom. 🤝💡

When abstract humanistic ideas become visible images, AI is not just a creative tool — it's a catalyst that brings imagination to life. 🌟

What's the connection between a mooncake and ancient Chinese exam candidates? 📚🥮

In ancient times, the provincial-level imperial examinations were typically held in the eighth lunar month, also known as the ‘Autumn Examination’ or ‘Autumn Testing Period’—
coinciding perfectly with the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Back then, mooncakes and pastries were often imprinted with auspicious phrases like ‘Divine Blessing for Success’ and ‘Top the Imperial Examinations’,
allowing students to seek good fortune before their tests. ✨

Ancient scholars would also pray for exam success during Mid-Autumn moon gazing, hoping to achieve excellent results! 🌕🏆

Join Us Now!

The Faculty of Humanities is thrilled to invite applications for the Non-local Student Ambassador Scheme! This initiative aims to foster interaction between local and non-local students in the Faculty of Humanities, allowing you to share your unique cultural heritage and promote cultural diversity among students.

As an ambassador, you will create a cultural activity that showcases your distinctive culture and enhances intercultural understanding. You will also support the Faculty’s important events.

Scheme Details:
🗓️Service Period: October 2026 to June 2027

🖋️ Application Method:
(1) Completed Application Form
(2) CV (maximum two pages)
(3) Proposed Cultural Activity Proposal

🎁 Benefits:
(1) HK $2,000 funding for your event
(2) 30 iWork hours
(3) Personalised guidance from the Student Wellness Officer
(4) A Dean-signed Certificate of Achievement

⭐ Eligibility:
To apply for the Scheme, you need to meet the following criteria:
(1) Be a non-local student under the Faculty of Humanities;
(2) Have a passion for sharing your culture and promoting intercultural understanding; and
(3) Be willing to commit to the responsibilities of a student ambassador.

Faculty of Humanities 2026/27 Master Programme Orientation Day

To welcome our new students, the master programme in the Faculty of Humanities organised an orientation, officially marking the commencement of the new academic year.

The orientation day featured a series of interactive sessions, allowing students to gain a deeper understanding of their programme's learning requirements and objectives and to become familiar with their upcoming academic life. The event covered introductions to learning resources and support services, as well as explorations of each programme's features. It was designed to help new students build confidence, integrate into the environment, and expand their interpersonal networks from the very beginning of their studies.

碩士課程迎新活動: 嶺南中醫藥文化講座及香囊工作坊

教大人文學院為全院碩士課程同學舉辦迎新活動，由中國語言學系講師 I 金夢瑤博士主講「百草迎新．嶺南中醫藥文化講座及香囊工作坊」。活動吸引逾百位同學踴躍參與，齊聚一堂探索中醫藥文化與本草養生智慧。

講座期間，金博士深入淺出地介紹嶺南中醫藥文化及日常養生知識，並示範多個有助舒緩疲勞、放鬆身心的保健穴位，讓同學掌握實用的健康管理技巧。隨後，同學更親手製作兩款專屬香囊，在認識中藥材特性的同時，體驗傳統中醫藥文化的獨特魅力。

活動現場氣氛熱烈，同學們積極參與互動，投入製作過程，不僅收穫養生知識，更透過親身體驗感受中醫藥文化的博大精深，為新學年注入健康與活力。

Master Programme Orientation Activity: Chinese Medicine Culture & Sachet Workshop

The Faculty of Humanities held an orientation activity for master programme students. It was hosted by Dr Jin Mengyao, Lecturer I from the Department of Chinese Language Studies, and titled “Welcoming the New Year with Hundred Herbs: Lingnan Chinese Medicine Culture Lecture and Sachet Workshop.” More than 100 students attended to explore traditional Chinese medicine culture and the wisdom of herbal wellness.

During the lecture, Dr Jin introduced Lingnan Chinese medicine culture and everyday wellness practices. She also demonstrated practical health management skills, including acupressure points and techniques that can help relax the mind and body. Afterwards, students made two special sachets of their own. While learning about the properties of different herbs, they also experienced traditional culture.

Students engaged actively in the discussion and devoted themselves to the workshop. They not only gained valuable wellness knowledge but also developed a deeper appreciation of traditional culture. This helped bring health and energy to the new academic year.

🎓 The Digital Playhouse’s themed learning module – ‘Lion Dance Playground’
Combining Hong Kong's intangible cultural heritage with digital interactive technology, this experience takes you on a journey from understanding lion dance culture to immersing yourself in this traditional art form.

Three Interactive Experiences:
📖 Cultural Guide: Discover the history and cultural significance of lion dance
🎨 Lion Head Design: Create your own unique lion head and learn the symbolism behind its colours and features
🥁 Cai Qing Rhythm Challenge: Follow the beat of traditional drums and gongs, and feel the power and energy of the cai qing ritual
