Your teen’s stress might cost you productivity at work!
Stressed teenagers are a tough thing to face for any parent—but for working parents, the cost can be particularly high.
When children reach adolescence and begin going through major transitions, they often experience intense stress. This stress doesn’t just stay at home, but affects us as parents in the workplace.
According to a 2024 research study, youth stress negatively impacts parental wellbeing. Parents of stressed youth report:
- More negative moods;
- More negative physical symptoms, such as headaches, fatigue, and stomach problems;
- Higher bedtime cortisol levels, which can disrupt sleep cycles.
With worse sleep, heightened anxiety, and feelings of fatigue, parents of stressed teens are more likely to feel tired and distracted at work, leading to decreased productivity.
Your teen’s stress can create and compound stress for you in the workplace. This means the key to your own happiness and productivity is the happiness of your teen. By strengthening teen resilience, you not only maintain your teen’s emotional wellbeing, but your own as well.
