Last Saturday, our Board of Directors visited a subdivided flat in Cheung Sha Wan. We were warmly welcomed by the tenant into a flat no larger than 150 square feet. The six of us had to keep the door opened in order to fit in.
The tenant of the flat, Ms Fung Kwan, is a single mother. She emigrated from the Mainland to Hong Kong in hopes of better education for her 7-year-old son. During our hour-long visit, the focus of Ms Fung’s talk was mainly on her son -- his school life, his outstanding academic results, her expectations for him, etc. Apparently, she cares about her son a lot and takes pride in him.
Hence, Ms Fung strives to provide the best education she could afford for her son. One of the family’s weekend activities is going to the library, which is a few minutes walk away. Fortunately, this is reciprocated by her son’s eagerness to learn; he asks her to buy him exercises in order to consolidate his knowledge. It is the hope of improving life through hard work and education that keeps the family going.
However, the family faces harsh constraints in reality. Ms Fung complained that her son would have to sit on the upper deck of the bunk bed to do his work due to limited space and dim lighting. It is bad for both his eyes and his spine.
We hope to give our tables to the CSSA Alliance*, which will distribute the AdapTables to families like Ms Fung’s, so that more can benefit. Our product’s compact and foldable nature saves space and our desk lamp provides ample lighting for children to work. It will provide a more comfortable and healthier working space.

Why choose to work in the technology department?
Being a part of the 21st century, where we enjoy technological advances, the power of the internet cannot be underestimated. Social media is no doubt a widely used platform. Therefore, I hope to make use of this advantage, in order to raise awareness for the housing problem of people.

How did AdapTable come up with its product?
When we were initially brainstorming products, we aimed to resolve social problems and benefit the society. After a series of discussion, we all thought it would be great if we could also help other students, as we fully understand what students' needs are. At last, we came up with our product, which not only saves space for underprivileged students but also allows us to learn comfortably.
