Our principal had the privilege of welcoming students from Yew Cheung to share her story—one that began on the classroom carpet and has taken her all the way to the principal’s office.
From Carpet to Corner Office - Seventeen years ago, she started as an assistant teacher with a simple dream: to keep learning, to grow steadily, and to one day lead a school where every child feels safe, supported, and genuinely cared for. Her journey took her from assistant teacher to class teacher, then lead teacher, and eventually to principal, with completing her principal’s course marking a proud milestone.
Standing before these bright students as a newly appointed principal of an international kindergarten, she spoke about the challenges she has faced. Education, at its heart, is about fairness and respect, but real life sometimes tests our resolve. She shared how she had to work harder to build trust and demonstrate that her authority is professional, steady, and deserving of respect.
She shared what has kept her going through it all. Love—love for her work and for early childhood education. She shared When you are driven by love for what you do, you stay dedicated, never stop learning, strive to improve every day, and remain ready to help those around you.
Honesty, fairness, and respect have been her guiding principles —not just for herself, but for her colleagues, supervisors, families, and, most of all, the children. Achieving her dream of leading a school has come true, and she hopes to pass on the lessons she has learned about perseverance, humility, and leadership to the next generation.
