Last week’s Swimming Gala was an absolute triumph, filled with incredible energy and fantastic team spirit from both our students and parents. We extend a huge thank you to Ms. Stephanie and our brilliant swimming coaches, whose meticulous planning and dedication ensured the entire day ran flawlessly. After some spectacular races in the pool, Dragon House swam away with the championship trophy for a well-deserved victory! Beyond the races and team games, the event was a wonderful celebration of sportsmanship, with everyone cheering loudly and creating unforgettable memories together.

Our new prospectus offers a vibrant look into a typical day at JIS, where learning is shaped by meaningful experiences, strong relationships, and a commitment to developing the whole child. As a fully authorised IB World School nestled in a green setting in Tai Po, our close-knit community of around 160 students from over 18 nationalities enjoys a diverse yet deeply personal environment where every child is known and supported. Guided by our core values of Kindness, Commitment, and Respect, and the Primary Years Programme (PYP), we deliver an inquiry-based, internationally minded education for children aged 3 to 11 that beautifully reflects not just what our students learn, but how they grow into confident, curious, and responsible global citizens—head over to es.jis.edu.hk/prospectus to learn more.

Our annual Bingo Night last Friday evening was a tremendous success, bringing our school community together for a night of fun and fundraising! We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our incredibly supportive parents for their immense generosity, including the wonderful gift donations and the support for our food and beverage stalls. This year, our wish list goal is to create a dedicated STEAM room for our students. This space will serve as a combined art room, maker space, and technology hub featuring green screen technology, robotics, and 3D printer. Thanks to your collective efforts, we raised an impressive $26,000 HKD, which will go directly into creating this space for the start of the next academic year. A special thanks must go to the ESSPA team, who worked tirelessly to bring this event to life!

A massive congratulations to our Battle of the Books (BOB) team for their spectacular victory at the semi-finals this past Thursday! This achievement follows many weeks of dedicated preparation, during which the team pored over various BOB titles, refined their routines, and mastered tricky questions about this year’s selection. Their success is a brilliant testament to the power of teamwork and preparation, perfectly embodying our school’s core value of “Commitment.” Every member of the team should be incredibly proud of how their hard work has paid off on the big stage. We are all immensely proud of their progress and simply cannot wait to cheer them on at the finals!

Our P3 students had an absolute blast during their Day Camp in Sai Kung this Tuesday! The adventure began with a scenic hike that led the group to the beautiful Trio Beach, where the energy remained high all morning. Once there, the students dived into various sea scouting activities, testing their teamwork and coordination by the water’s edge. The undisputed highlight of the trip was rock scrambling under a canopy of blue skies, providing a wonderful outdoor challenge for our young explorers. It was a fantastic day of fresh air and discovery!

To wrap up the “Sharing the Planet” unit, the Reception class took a field trip to Hong Kong Park to enjoy a morning in nature. The Reception students and their families enjoyed a picnic snack together, followed by a walk through the Edward Youde Aviary. The aviary was a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn more about wildlife, and they enjoyed having such a firsthand experience with the birds. The field trip ended with some playtime in the children’s playground!

Last Friday, we witnessed something truly special – our school production of “Sir David Hattenscarf and the Wonders of the World” was a resounding success! The culmination of weeks of hard work and dedication by our students and staff, the performance was a joyous celebration of collaboration, creativity and the magic of the Arts.

While the audience marvelled at the polished performance on stage, backstage was filled with its own kind of magic – students whispering words of encouragement, lending helping hands and sharing pats on the back. These moments beautifully reflected the very essence of our school’s core values: Kindness, Commitment and Respect.

A heartfelt thank you to our talented students, dedicated teachers and the families who supported this production. Events like these remind us of the transformative power of the Arts to foster growth, connection and joy. We couldn’t be prouder!

We’ve had a wonderful few weeks at school, filled with the magic of storytelling. Zanni Louise inspired our younger students (Reception to P2) with her session, “Learning to Fly”, sharing how persistence, courage, and imagination can help them dream big. Local author, Erica Lyons, captivated our older students (P3 to P6) with her session, “What Does Memory Smell Like”, exploring the deep connections between food, culture, and memory.

Hearing directly from authors about their creative processes, including the spark of an idea, the challenges of drafting, and the joy of storytelling, adds immense value to our students’ learning. These sessions not only nurture their love for reading but also empower them to find their own voices as writers. A heartfelt thank you to Zanni and Erica for inspiring our young readers and writers. Your visits have left a lasting impression!

We started the Year of the Horse by celebrating Random Acts of Kindness Day (February 17th) with our annual JIS Kindness Week.

On Monday, the Student Support and Wellbeing Department led an inspiring assembly where students listened to a story about the power of kindness, particularly through actions like listening to our friends and being present.

Throughout the week, everyone has made an extra effort to focus on our school value of ‘Kindness’. As part of the celebrations, every student decorated a Kindness Rock. These rocks will be displayed near the school’s main entrance—please look out for them!
