This is why Cantonese tones matter:
🔹 鐘 (zung1) = clock
🔹 糉 (zung2) = rice dumpling

Same sound to many learners.

Don’t use「唔係」for every “No”!

Try these instead:

❌ 唔要喇 (m4 jiu3 laa3)
I don’t want it.

❌ 唔使喇 (m4 sai2 laa3)
No need / No thanks.

❌ 唔好啦 (m4 hou2 laa1)
Let’s not / I’d rather not.

❌ 唔得喎 (m4 dak1 wo3)
Actually, I can’t.

💥 Bonus slang:
唔制呀 (m4 zai3 aa3)
No way! / I don’t want to!

Use this playfully with close friends or family — not with strangers or your boss 😅

Mastering Cantonese: The "Completed Action" Particle 咗 (zo2) 💡

In Cantonese, 咗 is your go-to for showing an action is finished (like adding "-ed" in English). Usually, it’s simple: Verb + zo2 咗.

But watch out! ⚠️ If the verb is a "double-word" (separable verb) like 起身 (to wake up), the 咗 must go in the middle:

❌ 起身咗 hei2san1 zo2(Incorrect)
✅ 起咗身 hei2zo2 san1(Woke up)

Keep this rule in mind and you'll sound like a local in no time! 🗣️🇭🇰
