Congratulations to our Chairman of Aston University Alumni Hong Kong - Stephen Lai, who received an honorary degree from Aston University yesterday. Stephen came to Aston in 1984, originally from Hong Kong, to study Building Economics and Measurement and is now MD of chartered quantity surveyors company Rider Levett Bucknall. Did you know Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung 張炳良 is our alumnus?
Professor Cheung who recently retired from the post of Secretary for Transport and Housing joined the Hong Kong Government after graduating from HKU in 1974. He worked in Government Secretariat and Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).
He obtained an MSc degree in Public Sector Management at Aston University in 1983. He was Professor at the City University of Hong Kong and then President of the Hong Kong Institute of Education and Chair of Public Administration since 2008.
Professor Cheung has been active in public service and community affairs. Apart from involvement in policy think tanks and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), he was also Chairman of the Hong Kong Consumer Council (2007-2012), Member of Hong Kong’s Executive Council (2005-2012), and Member of Legislative Council (1995-1997).
