• Maintaining class discipline

⏰ Work Hours (Part-time): Mon, Fri, Sat, or Sun (Negotiable)

The Silence of Tai Po

The eight buildings that scraped the grey sky
Now stand as black fingers where the seagulls fly.
Wang F*k Court, built in the days of ‘83,
A fortress of concrete near the northern sea.
But the deadliest blaze in sixty long years
Has washed the Tai Po streets in a river of tears.
One hundred and fifty-nine voices are still,
A silence that hangs like a shroud on the hill.

Was this the lightning? A strike from the air?
Or a spark fed by hands that ceased to care?
They call it “man-made,” a disaster of choice,
Where the ghost of corruption has found a new voice.
For the walls were wrapped in a white, deadly skin—
Styrofoam fuel for the demon within.
Renovations meant to renew and restore,
Became the kindling right outside the door.

And where were the warnings? The bells meant to ring?
The alarms in the eight blocks did not say a thing.
Ineffective and silent while the red terror grew,
Betraying the thousands of people they knew.
A few men in handcuffs may answer the law,
But are they the only defect in the flaw?
Is it just misfortune? Or a systemic rot?
A safety procedure that someone forgot?

We don’t know the depths of the greed or the lie,
We only know smoke choking out the blue sky.
More than a thousand homes turned to heat and to dust,
Along with the safety in which we placed trust.
We run from the high-rise, the north-eastern view,
Losing the old life to survive in the new.
The cat left behind, the heirlooms, the bed,
Are memories now in the land of the dead.

We stumble away with our hands full of soot,
With nothing but shoes on the soles of our foot.
What we carry with us is frighteningly small—
A phone, a torn jacket, and nothing at all.
But standing together as the towers burn down,
In the heart of a shattered and grieving town,
We learn that the things we piled on the shelf,
Were never the measure or sum of our self.

The heavy possessions are useless to hold,
When the windows explode and the story unfolds.
All we need is so little—just the air in our chest,
And the hand of a loved one to handle the rest.
