This inaugural volume covers a wide range of topics, from the fascinating realms of formalism, morphology, syntax, phonology, and fieldwork study, to so much more! 📢The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Hong Kong Baptist University is honored to invite you to the 2nd International Symposium on Humanities and Culture: Visions of a Digital Future, which will take place at the HKJC Auditorium, Hong Kong Palace Museum, on March 26 (Wednesday) and 27 (Thursday), 2025.

2. Neglected Voices and The Challenges of AI
3. Perspectives on AI and Transdisciplinarity
4. Human Mind in the Future of Education

This symposium is a unique opportunity to engage in thought-provoking discussions, explore innovative ideas, and network with academics and professionals at the forefront of humanities, culture, and the digital future.

Delighted to share that our MALS student, Miss ZHANG Hanxu, presented her research, "AI Metaphors We Live By: The Metaphorical Representations of AI in Online News Articles in Mainland China,” at the Linguistic Society of Hong Kong (LSHK) Annual Research Forum on 8th December 2024, at Shue Yan University. This work contributes to our understanding of how emerging technologies are conceptualized in contemporary Chinese discourse. Congratulations on this scholarly achievement! Call for Papers: FLaP FIRST Issue I

FLaP FIRST, a postgraduate student-led journal to present “Frank, Initial, Raw, Surprising Thoughts” broadly related to Formal Linguistics and Philosophy, is now making a global call for papers. We welcome:
a. original manuscripts and/or working papers,
b. squibs,
c. unabridged and/or unmutilated manuscripts of papers published elsewhere
d. critical viewpoints
e. reviews of monographs, papers, or anything due for a review

Papers may be in English or Chinese. Chinese papers must provide title of submission and abstract in both languages. This is also recommended/expected for English papers. Chinese characters must be written in traditional Chinese.

Submissions should be written as tersely as possible.

Each paper will be reviewed by up to three anonymous reviewers. Review is single-blind. Papers are either accepted or rejected. There will be no revisions. See “FLaP 1stTemplate4Author-EN.docx” or “FLaP 1st-Template4Author-CH.docx” for style and formatting requirements.

Please send submissions to [email protected]. A submission is a single WORD file, containing abstract and keywords. Since revision is not an option, the submission should be camera-ready. A PDF may be included for reference.

Submission constitute confirmation by authors that (i) they are owners of the material submitted and/or have obtained rights to use content contained therein; and (ii) they grant non-exclusive gratis use to FLaP FIRST. Authors retain all rights of their papers.

Our MALS graduate, Miss Pauline Bolin Liu, presented her research in collaboration with MALS teacher Dr. Mingxing Li, entitled "Phonological typology and perceptual distinctiveness of the [n-l] contrast in different vowel and tonal contexts", on The 19th Conference on Laboratory Phonology (LabPhon 19) (https://labphon.org/labphon19/program-glance) at Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea, June 27-29, 2024. LabPhon is one of the most prestigious and competitive conferences. Pauline's work was chosen as one of the 28 oral presentations in the general sessions of the conference, out of more than 300 submissions. Congratulations to Pauline!
