Lucy: Debunking the 10% Brain Myth 21/05/2016

"Excuse me sir."
"Yes?"
"What would happen, if for some reason we ignore, somebody unlocked 100% of the cerebral capacity?"

An open letter to Jason Rothenberg of 'The 100' - Fandom Following 25/03/2016

Diverse representation in the media should always be valued. But what happens when said representation falls into worn tropes that marginalised groups are tired of seeing?

Tragic q***r is a trope that the LGBT+ community is resisting more and more. While I've not watched the TV series 'The 100', the death of a q***r character in a recent episode rippled through my social circles and prompted me to ask: how and why is tragic q***r problematic?

Read this letter to the executive producer The 100. (It includes spoilers, but let's be honest, if you were on the Internet at all when the episode aired, you were probably spoiled already.)

On this day in 1867...

Tokugawa Yoshinobu (德川慶喜), the last shogan of Japan, resigned to the Emperor Meiji. It marked the beginning of the "enlightened rule" under Meiji which has significant influence on the historical development of Japan in the following century.

//...After a number of massive losses on the side of the Tokugawa, still reeling from its past weakness, Yoshinobu agreed that the Tokugawa could not win the civil war, and that Japan needed to be united against more potent and powerful foreigners. Few deny the importance of the news media in modern society. How does the media affect liberty and power today, and how, in turn, do norms of liberty and power impact the media?
Tomorrow, we will be very honoured to have a sharing by Mr Kevin Lau (劉進圖), former Editor-in-Chief of Ming Pao. The Scholars will be conducting a discussion on his sharing at lunchtime, and the details are as follows:
Venue: Outside the Scholars Room at the 1/F Covered Playground
Time: 12.40
Topic: Forum on Sharing by Mr Kevin Lau-- Your Take on Power, Liberty and the Media

The Scholars' Room is finally open and ready for use, and for this occasion we will be holding our 2nd Small Group Discussion - Thinking Aloud, for the first two days. Also, one of our Scholars, Christina Chiu of 5I will be displaying her artwork outside the Scholars' Room. As you may know from her past morning assembly presentation, she represented Hong Kong in 'The Small Montmartre of Bitola 2014', and won the Best Individual Award as well as the Best of the Day Award. So if you would like to take a closer look at her artwork, do stop by the Scholars' Room!

We cordially invite you to one of our highlight activities of the year - Thinking Aloud, session III.
We will explore the differences and similarities between two things which we always use - intuition and logic. Have you ever thought of when you use either of them, and how do both function in different scenarios?
Think Aloud with us! This year, we will be holding our exchange of ideas in a tranquil and perhaps more thought-provoking environment - at the covered playground under the White Jade Lily Tree. See you tomorrow (5/3) at 12:40.
