Congratulations to our Grade 5 students, who celebrated their Stepping Up last week. They’ve officially conquered Elementary school and are ready to take on their next big chapter: High School!

Over the past few weeks, many of us in this auditorium have been occupied by a singular demanding pursuit: final exams. This period is defined by intense preparation, but also by a specific kind of psychological pressure. We spend weeks building our knowledge, yet we often find that in the moments of the highest stakes, our greatest challenge isn’t the material itself, but our view of the task at hand.

We are incredibly proud of our littlest graduates and how much they have grown this year, as they officially finish Pre-Kindergarten and get ready to head into Kindergarten next year!

Heartbreak in the ISSFHK semi-finals, but what an absolute battle with a spot in the championship match on the line. The Carmel U12 Girls flew into a 3-0 lead by halftime thanks to clinical finishes from Joanna, Maya, and Arielle, but a high-intensity second-half comeback saw WIS clinch a 3-4 win in the final minutes. Despite missing out on the final, the squad should be incredibly proud of their effort. We play for 3rd-place later this week - stay tuned!

As part of their “How the World Works” Unit of Inquiry, Carmel School Grade 4 students visited the Ohel Leah Synagogue to explore Jewish traditions, community, and heritage firsthand. Students investigated the synagogue’s unique features - including the stained-glass windows, traditional seating, and Torah scrolls - while learning how these traditions foster a deep sense of community and continuity. This hands-on experience beautifully connected classroom learning with authentic Jewish life and identity.

HaRav Avraham Yitzchak Hakohen Kook had a monumental impact on the Jewish world—or more precisely, on its spiritual landscape. During his lifetime, Rav Kook was deeply controversial because his ideas were so profound and difficult for the world to grasp. One of Rav Kook's core concepts that I want to focus on today deals with the concept of greatness and how it manifests differently throughout our history.
